3000 mile oil change made a big difference!
I was running Valvoline SynPower 5w-30 w/ a fram oil filter (I know, im stupid). I went to my local dealer, picked up a OEM filter and 5 quarts of Quaker State 5w-30 (non-synthetic). I ran a quart through the motor and then filled it up. It was a big improvement and VTEC was much smoother...just thought id share. Conclusion: Fram sucks my ballz and synthetic oil is not worth the extra money.
Is this deja vu? I swear you made the same post awhile ago...Maybe not.
Glad to hear that you are happy with your switch. I love Castrol GTX though

What's wrong with Fram? Cardboard endcaps instead of metal; poor recirculation valve that can easily get stuck; thin filter element that doesn't filter much.
I wouldn't make big claims unless you had some quantitative evidence. Things like oil analysis or dynamometer figures. Fleet vehicles such as taxi's and freight vehicles use products such as FRAM and Purolator. And I bet that they drive in harsher conditions than most of us.

Seriously, don't waste your time with crappy oil and filters - your engine is too special for that

I'm not going to get in an Oil debate with any one.... but I will advise to stick to OEM Honda/Acura oil filters; as that is what I've been advised by my mechanic who has been involved with racing ITRs & S2Ks PLUS there is not much to be saved ($ wise) or gained by switching to a 3rd party oil filter!!
I agree. Honda filters are the same price or a tad more than aftermarket. Just as long as you change/check your oil according to recommended intervals (syn or conv), you will be fine. I've worked at an oil change franchise for over 3 years and haven't seen an engine fail from a aftermarket filter or conventional oil. What really kills a motor is simply not changing your oil.
I've been using fram filters in my cars for the past 7 years. I like the little rubber grip jobby on the end of the filter. Never had any sort of problem.

the filter didnt do much in making things smoother do dont add it into the equation. you keep up on your oil changes, etc etc, and the fram will do just fine.
im in the same boat as you job wise. i do it part time balancing it with a little cash for school. filters never cause a serious/worthwhile problem on a basically stock STREET car. i could see if you had some 600hp monster where everything mattered but on a basically street only car. an oil filter aint gonna ruin your day. but once again. bad oil, or lack of changing oil can and will.

The owner's manual recommends 5W30 viscosity oil.
As far as "best", it depends on what you mean. Synthetic oil is better because it flows better at cold temperatures and it resists breakdown at high temperatures. Conventional oil is better because it's cheaper.
I use 5W30 Mobil 1.

oil filter does matter, only OEM for mah Cah. But if you change your oil constantly it doesn't come in to play as much..also it depends on what you car goes through...
Seriously...unless you are in some extremely harsh conditions...there isn't too much that can happen to oil in 3000mi (as long as there is oil in the motor) in order to make the oil break down enough to damage a motor. Europeans change their oil much more infrequently than we do without any extra harm to their engines. If you change your filter every 3000 mi....chances are any filter would do equally well in protecting your motor.
I also think that the fact that RealTime uses those filters doesn't matter because those filters probably never see more than 1000mi anyway....

OEM filter ownz all...
I'm sure theres something better, but the acura filter seems good.
As far as what realtime uses. Dont they rebuild the engine after every race?

There was an oil filter comparison peformed by the some Texas Prelude Owners. It included cut away examinations of popular oil filters and descriptions, recommendations about which to select and why. If I recall, the Fram's weren't highly thought of, but the Mobil 1, Bosch, and STP were (all of which are basically the same). I think those three were even better than the OEM in the opinion of the reviews and is the reason why I now use the Bosch instead of the Mobil 1 and OEM Honda filters. btw- the Bosch is 1/2 the price of the Mobil 1, but as stated above is nearly identical in construction.

you guys better check those OEM filters you're using. If they say "Made in Canada" on them, guess what, you're still using a Fram filter.
When I used to use OEM filters (not anymore because of cost and distance of nearest dealer), I would always specifically tell them to give me a "Made in USA" Honda filter, which also said "Made by Filtech" on it.
