b16 into 89 dx civic....trust me i searched
allright this is prolly the most widely discussed topic on this board. im a newbie to the ef civic world, and i love the idea of a sleeper that can do mid 14's with no problem. i got my civic for 400 bucks with 214k on the odo. by beggining of summer i wanna drop in a b16 with the tranny and ecu. but i got a couple of noob questions.....
1) what are all the parts that i would (all the parts, from mounts to the throttle wire)
2) my driveway is uphill and my garage isnt even big enough to move around in, so could i be able to do this on my street?
3) what are all the tools that i would need?
4) if i cant do it, how much would a mechanic charge?
5) are there any common problems with using the b16?

1) http://www.hasport.com
2)Get a cherry picker and some jacks, its possible.
3)Metric wrench and socket set, breaker bar, socket big enough to fit around the axle nut, wire cutters & crimpers, solder gun, pliers, nothing too special.
4)Ive seen anywhere from $450 to $1200 for just labor.
5)Initially you will run into problems after the swap (error codes, grounds, wires hooked up wrong) but once thats all figured out, its just like any other Honda engine reliability wise.

man if i can get labor done for 500 than i would deifnetely opt for that, would a mechanic know all this stuff though?
what is usually included in a typical "changeover" kit?

You arent going to be able to go to a Honda dealership or repair shop and have them perform the swap. Go to a performance shop in your area and get some quotes...Im not sure what you mean by a changeover kit?
well honda is out of the question cuz they rape you in bills, a repair shop is out of the question.
there is a shop that i took the prelude to for repairs. they usually just did simple things like exhaust and oil-changes, but they have a garage for harder things. the manager was big into muscle cars with all the swaps he did, but that was all american and slighly different. a guy that works there has a previous gen supra which he turboed, him and his friend popped an h22 into an older style accord with no problem, so i might pay them to do it in the shop.
i found this from hmotorsonline.com, this is there changeover:
- Motor
- Cable Tranny (Y1, S1, J1)
- ECU (PR3, PW0)
- Axles with Half Shaft
- Shift Linkage*
- Stock Motor Mounts*
- Alternator
- Starter
- Clutch
- Flywheel
- Intake Manifold
- Exhaust Manifold
- Fuel Rail
- Injectors
- Distributor
- Engine Harness
- Comes With All Sensors Needed
- LSD Tranny (Optional +$300)
Motors average 35,000 miles and come with a 100% start up warranty. All Sensors are guaranteed not broken and in working condition!
*Requires aftermarket parts for most applications. We can supply you with the hasport mount kit for $350 and the hasport linkage for $50. Prices only valid with purchase of a complete changeover.

what did you search, this board? Maybe your not using it right because i entered b16 swap in the archives and came up with 4 pages of stuff. Just type in b16 and there would be a gang of material. Take the time to search and i'm sure you would learn a lot more than you intended
yea you found b16, but most of those except like 5 actually refer to my situation, the rest is just probelms or questions about there beees. thanks for looking out though.

well like you said "prolly the most widely discussed topic on this board"...
so my guess would be there's lots of answers to your questions in the archived threads...
You probably will still have questions though... good luck with your swap!
