how to tell if it's a real PR3 ECU
i'm going out today to buy a used pr3 ecu from some guy in my area.. i want to be sure it is a pre obd PR3 ecu.. is there anyway i can check to make sure it's a pre obd vtec ecu?
thanks
thanks
1 big green plug and 2 smaller black ones. OBD1 will be gray and have 4 slots for plugs. If you can take the cover off, the Green plug will have a sticker on it and say PR3 and have a knock board
I was saying the inside the case will tell you for sure. Anybody can swap a case. There is a bar code on the out side but some people are shisty ya know. Have you ever looked/seen the inside of a PR3?? Its a circuit board that is in the upper right corner from the ECU plugs. Will say A/T for automatics or M/T for Manuals....

iyeah man dont get gipped, i got gipped,
i bought my PR3 supposedly thinking that it was chipped witha skunk2, but when a skunk2 representative spoke to me, he never heard of a PR3 skunk2 chip. and i don't have VTEC kicking in at 4,400 and rev limiter at 9,000 and no govern. bastered ripped me off!!!!
i opened it and it did have the skunk2 sticker, i guess he probably just slapped it on
.
good luck, hope you don't get gipped.

I would test it for sure if have any doubts about it. Worse comes to worse just plug it in. Will throw max of 4 codes. V-tec-code 21, 2nd O2-code2, Knock Sensor-code23 and Pressure Switch-code22. It will be a mixture of long and short flashes for each code. Will be in limp mode so wont rev to 8200 but at least you know it works and is looking for all sensors
hehe limp mode
i liek that
i always thought it was reservation mode, or warmup mode
cuz its cuts off at about 7200 to prevent vtec from kicking in and reving high

safe mode, limp mode, its missing sensors. Guess warm/reservation is a good name but in that situation there are no codes all the sensors are accounted for and working.
