My ITR trip...........10 more days!!!
I'm starting to get a little anxious now!! I've broken my trip into 3 legs. I'm purchasing the car in Oregon and making the 52+ hour trek back home to NY.
My 1st leg is going to be the worst: ~24hrs from Oregon to Denver The only thing good (weather permitting) is going to be driving through the mountains. Anybody have any good state or nat'l parks to check out?? I will be documenting my whole trip with photos so I'll have a nice little picture story to share with you guys upon my return so I want to get some kick *** photos.
2nd leg: Denver to St. Louis
Ahhhhhhh! 14+ hours of middle America. Not much excitement here I'm afraid.
3rd leg: St. Louis to NY
Not too bad here. Gonna stay more south through Indianapolis and Columbus, Ohio.
Well, wish me luck guys!! I've been steadily burning a hefty CD collection for my long, solo road trip across country in my new ITR.

Not to rain on your happy day but the ONLY thing that comes to my mind when I hear this is, that's going to suck to see you put in all this effor when later on your car gets stolen.
Don't mean to bring bad news or put a damper on your mood. I hope you have a safe trip and everything works out perfect. It's just sad that that's all I think about when owning a Type-R. Enjoy the car while you have it!

Ahhhhh. It's high theft factor was a known to me when making my final decision to purchase an ITR. It will be fully insured and I plan on enjoying every second I spend in the car until the inevitable happens. That's just not a good enough reason for me to not want to own such a vehicle. If it happens....it happens. It's just a car.
I have chosen to not live my life without at least owning an ITR. I just hope my ownership will last longer than a hot minute.
It will remain garaged out in the boonies most of the time except for autocrosses and track days. I've got another vehicle to drive everyday.

The furtherest I've ever been was a 24 hour trip one way. I can't imagine 52 hours. Good luck on the drive and take plenty of back pain medicine with you, because if you don't have back problems now, you will.

Good luck,
Maybe contact Neomugen since he bought his 98 CW in FL drove to NY. He has some suggestions I'm sure. I don't know anyone that did the West>East Trek but, I'm sure there has got be a few?
I drove my brand new PY R from CT to Tenn, then on to Ga then to Miami and back to CT and had some fun but, I gotta tell you that although you will be excited, it will get tiring and is Not the most comfortable car to drive on extremely long trips.
You should design a checklist of things to bring:
Flashlight with extra batteries
Flares (get REAL flares and try to find the 30 minute ones)
1 Gallon of emergency water
The Full Size Spare, jack and wheel lug lock key if applicable
2 to 3 cans of Fix-A-Flat- (Just Ask Neomugen)
Extra windshiled washer fluid
A few quarts of proper weight motor oil
A gallon of antifreeze
A basic toolkit
An empty gallon jug (to fill with fuel if need be)
A good thermal blanket
Comfortable driving shoes and clothes (dress in layers)
Good sunglasses
A heavy winter coat preferrably water proof
Snack food
Drinks
Radar detector if you have one
Helms manual if you can get one beforehand
Cellphone with recharger plug and handsfree mic/earpiece
Current road maps or atlas of roads you are traveling
Pen and Paper
Theres more but, thats a good start lemme think....

The vehicle comes with the stock rims/tires as well as Kosei K-1's w/ Yoko O32's. So I guess I'll have 4 full-size spare tires!

I think I'm gonna grab a AAA membership too.
Thanks guys!

and besides, i didn't have a quarter of the stuff you mentioned on my trips
What rout are you gonna take? Are you comming down 5, to 80?
I might suggest taking i-50 through nevada, and then picking up I-70 in Grand Junction CO. It's alot quicker than going 80 through salt lake. You can go north further east.
One of my favorite roads is I-70 west of Denver. Glenwood Springs is AWESOME.
Once I got stuck in Glenwood springs on one of my many trips from Indiana to California (did that like 12 times). A huge mud slide had closed I-70. Anyway, I went I-133 (from Glenwood Springs) to I-92 to I50 (In Grand Junction). One of the prettiest drives I've ever made.
If you'd like some recommendations, please email me!!

As well, I remembered all the trouble Ray went through when he brought his CW up from Sunny Florida.

Tell me about it. I've been doing my share of calf raises every morning.
With gas prices the way they are and food and hotel I would think paying a shippihng company 500 bucks to ship it to your door would be a hell of alot better
