Need Audio buying advice...
alright,
im about to buy the following things for a 94 Civic EX:
6.5'' Alpine Type-R Coaxial (rear deck)
6.5 Rockford Fosgate FNX2614 Component Set
12'' Alpine Type-R Subwoofer
and a crunch V1800 Amplifier.
ive previously been powering my 2 Polk 10's off a 4 channel Hifonics 440watt amp. this amp will be powering the components and rear deck speakers, while the Crunch Mono Amp will be powering the Alpine Sub...is this overkill on wattage? is there anything i should look out for? IE crappy products, i cant really find too much info on the alpine stuff....and i heard crunch was good back in the day...
help please.
thanks

What about sticking with Alpine, getting the type-R comps for the front, the single sub, and use the Hifonics amp for everything. I would try that first. If you feel you need more, then add the rear speakers and the sub amp down the line.
I have a feeling that you will be shocked what that setup will do for you.
the hifonics amp is actually 440MAX, 110x4...and from what ive experienced, 220watts isnt gonna even start to move the sub....
anyone else thing alpines components are better than RF's? i can also afford MB Quarts DISCUS Series, but with such a huge price difference from any of their other stuff, i didnt know if it was junk with a nice label...
thanks for your help Rcurley

I have only heard the alpine components once. I can't remember what I thought of them though. I also think that you should get a nice set of front components before worrying about the rears. Diamonds have a rear fill output, so you will not have to waste an amp channel on them.
200 watts to the sub will definately let you know it is there.

I was running my front and rear coaxials on a Hifonics Zeus Z440 amp recently. It had some good power and decent clarity. The surprise here is that it's actually made by the same company that made Crunch amps. Up until the Hifonics series VIII amps they were US made by ZED audio, then they sold out to a Chinese company and were completely different.
I saw a set of MB Quart discus series 6.5" coax. on ebay for like $85 + S&H. I'm thinking about getting them to replace my rear Infinity coax. I've heard them before and I think you can't go wrong. If you ran MB Quarts on your Hifonics 4 channel, I think it'd sound pretty good. The Hifonics has a decent built in crossover as well. The system won't be world class but not bad.
The crunch was alot better than Pyramid or Boss. The bass amps could pump out a lot of bang for the buck.

That Hifonics Z440 amp is supposed to be 1 ohm stable. I have never run it that way but that would extract more power from it. You'd have to bridge it and run it mono depending on how you wired your subs. I still think it'd make your mids and highs sound good though. Alpine subs are pretty good. Fosgate has good tweeters.
