Default Cleaning K&N filters...

Just wondering what everyone does to clean their K&N filter. Do you buy their recharge kit? Wash it in gas? Blow it out w/ an air gun? "wut.... your sposed to clean dem thangs?"

Holla.

Bump.

I've also heard of people washing it with a mild soap and water with a brush while spraying water from the inside of the filter.

Any other ways that work good for other's?

get the recharge kit. Definitely do NOT use compressed air to clean it. That will mess up the gauze. Plus after cleaning, you have to re-oil the surface.

Buy the recharge kit and read the instructions. It says NOT to do everything you just suggested. You can go to Autozone or Advanced and read the box before you buy.

that k&n recharge kit is basically carb cleaner. you soak your filter in carb cleaner.
just get a can of cc and spray the filter!

Of course it's going to say to NOT do any other thing than buy their recharge kit. How would they sell them if they mentioned other alternatives on the box.

I've got the recharge kit, its NOT carb cleaner. Its a water-based detergent of some kind. Besides, you'll still need the K&N filter oil, anyway.

No matter what filter charger you buy, using gas and blowing the filter dry with an air gun will jack up the filter media.

I've heard that silicone spray stuff acts as a filter oil to catch the debris that try to pass. Opinions? I would think any non-drying fluid would work. (possibly even a non-water-based armor all, LOL)

holy *.....did I write what I did? it didn't make much sense...must be splitting my effort between the paper that is due tomrrow and H-T...

What I meant to ask is if you can wash your filter gently with soapy water and then use the silicon spray as an equivilant of the oil that is in the K&N kit.
