potholes and suspensions
last night i hit a pothole bad enough to bend the outer lip on my steelie......
what other damage could have been done? (to suspension etc) i have a 5th gen accord with tokico blues and eibach (pro kit) springs.

I hit a curb a month ago during a snow storm and bent one of my K1's, plus I pushed the passenger side control arm back an inch.
Oh yeah, my alignment was fucked to hell, too!

SeaBass, last year about 2 weeks after i installed the suspension i hit a curb causing over 2500 buck in damage >> the shop replaced basiucally everything >> did you have yours fixed? how is it now?
Our suspensions are pretty tough. I've never heard of even the worst pothole bending a suspension piece, but they do take wheels. Hopefully your wheel took the brunt of the impact with the tire/shock/spring taking the rest. It's amost impossible to seee if your suspension is bent. Best you can do is make sure it can be aligned to within factory specs.
Oh, I do know a guy who just recently messed up a shock-top mounting washer on a big pothole... but everything else seems to be unharmed.

4 door > thanks a lot > the car was favoring the right a bit beofre i hit the pothole > but i figured it might have just been a low tire >> now its a little bit worse >> do you think its simply an allignment issue then? also >> last year when i hit the curb there were suspension components that were damaged >> the shop replaced basically everything they could including the crossmember bar. the car was nice and true and straight after that >> what you posted for me is a lot more reasuring, but I just want to be doubly sure that i am not going to incur another huge expense like last summer's >

Well, by definition, if your alignment is out of whack, something in your suspension geometery has changed. Could be displaced bushings, ball joints, or even an unperceptable bend in an arm. Whatever it is, if the car can be aligned to spec and you can drive off with the car going straight and not wandering, everything should be just fine.
I think any moderate damage would show up as massive amounts (massive being maybe +3) of camber or toe that can't be dialed out.

4 door >> thanks a lot for the info > i will be checking the alignment tomorrow and ill be getting back to you on it as soon as I do >> as for the bent rim, should i hamer it back into place or just leave it > whats bent is the outermost lip where the tire rim and the tire meet just at the valve stem
thanks everyone for the help > lucky for me it turned out to be no more than a bent steelie (that was bent back to its original shape) and a bad tire..... the guy at mavis switched the tire from left to right and that solved the favoring problem >>
hey dave i have a 4th gen and i know that who ever owned mine before did something similar. what the guys at the alignment shop overlooked however was the caster. i know that on a 4th gen there is no aftermarket caster for adjustment but if you hit a curb you may want them to double check that because if that gets out of wack your car will never stay aligned.
Hey man,,, how u been? Have you been driving your accord in this crappy weather on our miserable streets all winter? Mine has been in the garage getting some TLC.
I cracked a rim in Sept. on Purchase St. and decided that it comes off road for winter. Will get alignment and balance wheels when on the road again.
