Type R or Buell XB9R
I have been wanting a motorcycle for a long time now. Yesterday I rode a Buell, it's been bugging the crap out of me. Keep the R, that sits in the garage because I won't drive it anywhere I can't keep an eye on it or give it up and buy a bike.
They both serve the same purpose, an expensive, fun, fast toy that only comes out on nice days. It's really hard to decide, insurance, track days and upkeep are all so much cheaper on the bike.
Decisions! Decisions!

i am in the same boat...but insurance on a bike would rip me to shreds and i would probably kill myself on a bike before i would in my R. So Im keeping my R. [maybe]
Well the choices you have given makes it easy for me to decide because I just dont like Buell. Now if we were talking about the ITR or a Yamaha R1 then the choice would be easy. One question for you though, how come you dont just keep both?
It looks like this might be the wrong place to ask. I would have a Type R over a Buell any day, but then again if think your going to get more fun out of a Buell, then sell your R to someone who doesn't get bugged by having an R in their garage.
I personally think a bike would make a better 'toy', that is a vehicle solely for fun. The ITR is fun, but the practicality, and reliability for that matter sort of smudge the 'fun' factor for me.....i mean a toy is not supposed to be reliable

You can have BOTH.
Check the sig.
I agree 100% with rainman...and if it's your 1st bike DO NOT get a litre bike...learn to ride and CONTROL a smaller bike first, plus insurance is cheaper on bike with fewer cc's. As for the decision...keep the R and get a GIXXER!!!!!
GSXR 1000's are f'n awesome, but the only time you see one around here, some squid is riding it because someone told them "get a GIXXER!!!!!"
Bikes are fun, but i gave them up when my kids were born. I have rode both the R1 and the Buell. There is no comparison. Just like there is no comparison between motocross and a street bike. There is a motorcycle only salvage yard near my house. This place wiil make you understand why insurance for crotch rockets is so high. I was there a couple of weeks ago and there was 6 gsxr 1000 that looked like they went head first into a wall. I would say about 90% of the bikes there were R1, R6 and gixxers. One good thing is that you can buy a slighty wrecked R1 for $1500 dollars. This place has all the deals.
I like motorcycles, but I am scared to death of them. A friend of mine died not too long ago on a bike, which has kind of scared me away from motorcycles. But, on the other hand, another friend of mine has a CBR1100 with nearly 15k miles on it he loves it so much
I say keep the R, but I'm a *****

There is nothing like testimonials from (former I assume steve) Riders to make newbies not want to venture to 2 wheels....
It's all throttle control...any bike 600cc or 1000cc can do the same damage if you don't know what you are doing or push the limits too far...hell...even a YSR with it's little 50cc motor can kill you...
As a motorcycle and Type-R owner myself, I would say stick with the R and leave the bike alone. I've owned my Harley for 5 years and only ride her like twice a year. It was great for the first year or so but sit in traffic long enough during 90 degree heat and a full helmet and it starts being a pain. Plus nobody respects motorcycles like they should and hopefully you want become someone's hood ornament one day. Easy choice..........keep the R
YZF-R6 or the new ZX-6R. Tons of power, super fast, and easier to control. And only $8,000. After owning two other 600's, these are more than enough for anyone other than the stunna's .......
I don't think I will ever buy anything bigger than a 600 except maybe a Ducer 999 ...... something so sexy about hearing a V go flying buy over a 4 cyl. during a race ....... mmmmm, yummy!
Of course I am partial to Italian machines .......

954- 370
R6- 365
R1- 385
Not to be a dick, but you would be a ******* retard to start out on a GSXR1000 or anything in that arena.
Moreover insurance on any sportbike is going to be expensive -- and in fact the cutoff is generally 599CC's -- not the 1000 you mention.

Generally the cutoff may be 599 cc's, but in NC, the big jump is anything over 1000.
I don't see were ridding dirt bikes is a stepping stone to street bikes. Bikes are way to easy to abuse. On a R1 or any sport bike, everything happens so much quicker. You are at 100 mph before you even make third gear. One other thing is that people don't see motorcycles on the road, they will cut you off, pull in front of you, and so on. I don't recomend a sport bike for road use, they should be strickly for track purposes. These are just my thoughts, based on what i have seen and memories of friends crashing overpowered bikes.
Keep the R and get some old school goodness!
(Like my 82 Suzuki - fast enought to be fun, but not scary...)
I would like to buy a nice sportbike too someday, but for now, I'm happy w/ the R and Suzi. Best advice I could give is to start out on something SLOW, and learn how to ride. Remember, slow bike are still faster than 90% of all cars on the road
