Default $15K for 1998 ITR, 30K miles, yea or nah?

My friend is looking into this ITR right now. He's really interested.
The owner knows my friend and prefer to sell it to someone he knows.
Asking price $15K and pretty much firm on price.
Mods: JDM ITR front end, cat-back exhaust (dun know which kind yet), lowered
on adj. springs (dun know the brand yet), stock everything else
Original 30K miles, I ran the CarFax, looks clean. One owner. Car is 1998 USDM
model, White.

UPDATE ON THE ITR:

Checked out the car today. Turned out that I noticed it has a minor
accident before on the right front corner. I am guessing that's why
he put on the JDM ITR front end. Good thing is JDM ITR is OEM not those
fiberglass USA made one.

The whole car looks like its been painted. There are no original VINs on
either of the doors. No VINs on the rear end. The front end, of course, no
VINs due to JDM front. The only place I can find VIN is at the firewall.

Something worth mention: it has skunk2 adj. springs on stock shocks and
max speed muffler, and also alteeza apple red (all red) taillights
Also has a top fuel lip and WW side skirts and rear lip.
But I want to emphasize the whole car has been painted outside.

Wheels...he's got a set of Volk IIIs and stock wheels. Engine is all stock.
No intake, no header, looks clean. But he got this set of underhood engine
dress up kit that might look nice to other people but ugly to me.

So, what do you guys think now? Yea or Nah?

Just to let you know, Carfax is not always accurate. I have looked up a couple of cars that were known to have damage, and Carfax turned up nothing.

It is a decent price. If your friend doesn't buy it, there are several people here in Virginia who'd be interested.

I am giving serious thought to selling my '98. Located much closer to VA than s2geezy.

BTW, how does Carfax work? If there was an accident and it was not reported to insurence and was just fixed out of pocket isnt it true that it wouldnt show up on Carfax? If upon inspection the car looks clean and drives well than I would be all over that one. I often times thought about finding a CW ITR and selling my 2001 PY ITR since mine has alot of miles and CW oWnZ.

Yup. And to be honest, on most cars, its a load of crap. I had a on-track incident in my saturn but i paid out of pocket to fix it - there wasnt alot of damage (body panels and headlights) and it was all cosmetic work. I like the car and i have plenty of money tied up in it so i just paid out of pocket for the repair.

If there was an accident and it was not reported to insurence and was just fixed out of pocket isnt it true that it wouldnt show up on Carfax.

I think it is up to each individual business (body shop, service, insurance etc..) to voluntarily report incidents to Carfax.

I paid $16,700 for my 98, and it had 42,000 miles on it. So that asking price is very good. I'd be interested in hearing more of the cars history. Be sure and tell your friend to have the car checked out by a mechanic before buying it.

CarFax does not show if you do not report to insurance or do not have
a police report. I have a personal experience. I bought a 98 Prelude back in
99. I only had liability insurance at the time and I messed up
the front end. The damage came close to $5000 and I paid out of my own
pocket at my friends shop to fix it. Two years later after I came to sell my
Prelude, I ran the CarFax myself during that time, nothing shows. It only
showed clean title history and everything looks clean. But the front end
had been replaced (rad. support, headlights, hood, fender, bumper)

California. He did not advertise the car for sale. He's owned more
than one car and rarely drive the Type R (why its only got 30K miles)
and he wants to sell it to my friend.

Yep, thanks for the advice. He's taking the car to Acura to get inspected.
