where does a newb start?
welcome to the H-T. best thing to do when you start out is read pretty much anything you can find or hang out with someone that knows about cars, like your friend. what exactly are u interested in learning about? what kinda car do you have?
just learning from the basics to advanded mainteance and maybe alittle tuning. dont got a car yet, i dont plan to untill i know what the hell im pushing... dont matter about a specefic car, but just general knowledge

If you want general mechanic theory about engines and how different parts of the car works, there are a few sites that can help you out there. http://www.howstuffworks.com is a good one. But since cars tend to vary by manufacturerer, what you learn for a honda won't usually carry over to a domestic, so you should find out which breed of car you are interested in before you start throwing yourself into the specifics.
also, if you hear some term or something you dont know use the search function on here. be sure to check "archives" on the search function since some people dont see that too much. you can learn ALOT just from doing that.
