Driving a JDM RHD Type R on the street?
I have the chance to import a 98 Type R from japan for a really good price. I keep hearing about having to have crash test data or some such to be able register it, and be able to drive it as my daily driver. I can not get a true answer from anyone and I need some help. Anyone that can help please let me know.
There is a big difference in the two like one is RHD and also the JDM front end is to die for. Why not have the real deal? I will probably buy it anyway and swap all the parts I want over but it would be nice to just drive the real Type R.
mostly because people who own hondas/civics/accords/integra's who want to get a ITR don't have a lot of cash to spend on getting one. (thus the thieving, etc)

it amazes me how so many people are so fascinated by steering wheel placement. of all the things on a type R, you're worried about it being "dope" and going through a grip of hassle over a front end which can be replaced easily, and because the interior is mirrored from the us one.
ITR is ITR, but i do understand why you would want a JDM (from japan) type-r. wtih the RHD and stuff. that fron tend is dayam sexy.
is there a difference in insurance with RHD? i heard that it takes 5 seconds to learn how to drive a HRD form a LHD car, but fast shiting is hard

Also you can always add the JDM front to a USDM ITR, if you want to.

You will not be able to use it on the street.
There is really no point getting a JDM ITR when USDM ITRs are available.

In a RHD, anyone ever think it will be dangerous to make left turns at the light when your looking for traffic comming down the street and there is a SUV or van across from you making a left turn blocking your line of vision? It's already hard sometime in LHD.
does that 10k cheaper price include importing it to the US...we're not just talking sticker price...but SHIPPING and TAXES as well...
I guess there is no point..considering you can get them for 10k cheaper then a usdm one....and excuse..me..but how is a "jdm" itr not legal to drive? Tell that to the many people that have them registred and drive them on a daily basis. I forgot though..your a moderator..so you know "everything"
Show me one JDM ITR that is registered with its real VIN.

i Think a lot of guys out there really have this JDM fetish going around. its cool. To some ppl, maybe the all the bad things don't outweight the good things. Whatever it is, its all up to you what you want to do and if you really want to invest in a RHD R. To be honest, yeah, the only difference between the 2 cars is just you get in on the other side of the car. When you park, its a little weird. Shifting with the other hand. Its not going to feel a lot faster than the USDM's just cause of the .4 bump in compression.
REMEMBER - You're STILL DRINKING 91-93 Octane GAS.
COMPRESSION, SHCOMPRESSION!
If you're die hard just so you can be different, go for it.
My advice, do whatcha want. Everyone's got their opinions and they're entitled to it. Not everyone wants a JDM front cause they consider it rice, other's like the one piece headlight that resembles an accord. Whatever right? Do your thing man, just make an educated decision.

I guess as far as the looks go and the "JDM-ness" it's all a matter of taste.
Nonetheless, I'd personally counsel against an RHD car as a daily drivere in North America.
There are a few Anglophiles in Westhampton and Windsor Farms who have RHD Rolls Royces, and if you are driving one you quickly discover that road designers in the United States assume that the driver is on the left side of the car, and it can make a very big difference sometimes. Sometimes it's just not very safe.
As far as the shifter goes, you get used to shifting with your left hand pretty quickly. Personally, however, as someone who has had to use a five speed with his left hand, I prefer the shifter on the right.
** I ** wouldn't go through all that trouble, but I wouldn't look down on anyone who did.
