Default Can I have more clip grooves machined into my Bilstein shock bodies?

Just like the topic says...can I have this done at a machine shop or something? My car, without me in it, sits way higher on the passenger side, especially in the rear.

I have a feeling the only other solution would be to either get some adjustable coilovers, like GC's, which I really don't have the $ for, or to chop the coils on the passenger side, which would change the spring rates and therefore I'm not doing that.

So is this safe to do? Has anyone done it? The Bilsteins already have 2 grooves, I have all the clips in the lowest groove - so I would just have the machinist make like 2 or 3 more grooves, about 1/4" apart.

My Bilsteins came with 5 grooves.

Yes you should be able to cut the groves but make sure that the new grooves have good square corners and flat sides. Be super carefull about not cutting too deep as Bilsteins are mono-tube high pressure gas with small volume but probably over 250 lbs of nitrogen gas pressure inside. They could really expolde of you so through the side steel.

If you car is not sitting square, you should probably find the real root cause and not alter your shocks to patch up a symptom. If the spring seats are in the stock places on the Bilsteins (and you can trust that they are), then the unlevelness is likely to be a spring rate or sag issue or a chassis that is not square. Chamnging the spring seat height is the backwards way to fix the problem and your corner weights and handlig could go off. I think you are better to do some experiments to find the problem first. Put the right side springs and shocks on the left side of the car and vice versa. Is the other side low now? (if so it is springs) Is the same side low now (obviously not springs, not look for chassis issues).

Well if it's the springs I'm sure I can just pick up some new ones. H&R's would be a likely choice.

However, the ones I have on there now are Neuspeed Sports. Wouldn't that be sort of odd if they sat that noticeably offset?

If it's the chassis, I guess you could say that I'm pretty much screwed. As far as getting that fixed, it would probably be prohibitively expensive.

Thanks CRX_Lee, I will definitely try to find some time to switch the springs from left to right and see if that helps. The only weird thing is that it's done it since I put them on. I never noticed it when the stock springs and shocks were on, though...and I have seen a few others with Bilsteins complain of a similar problem with sitting crooked. Keep the ideas coming - this has been bugging me for a while.

And Lee, you are def. correct that it is sort of a backward, half-*** way of taking care of the problem. I just didn't know where else to go!!
