Cleaning Engine Bay
I wanted to clean my engine bay, I didn't want to buy just any spray on product so if anyone can give me some tricks to cleaning the engine bay... Can I just use a high pressure water and do I have to cover any parts of the engine when doing this? ...need all the info I can get....thanks..
I'm cleaning mine with a pressure washer tomorrow (if weather provides) but my engine is out. There was a thread about a week ago about whether or not to leave the engine running and the result of the debate was to have the engine off for obvious reasons with the air intake. Do you plan on just washing down the bay or the engine also?

1.high pressure spray your whole engine bay down once motor has cooled(stay away from distributor and cover intake with plastic bag-if you have an aftermarket intake.
2.spray the whole thing down with simple green and let sit for a few minutes
3.repeat step 1
4.repeat step 2
5.repeat step 1
6.spray down with armor all(everything) and let sit for a few minutes.
7.spray again with armor all and wipe it all off with a clean towel
8.you now have a bling bling engine bay.
*this is what I do everytime I clean my engine bay, and it comes out looking new everytime.

I just bought a 1200 psi electrical pressure washer from Harbor freight.
I paid $60 plus $11 for a one year replacement warantee.
It's perfect for cleaning engines, not too powerful that might damage the electrical plugs, but powerful enough to remove oil and grime.
It left the tranny I cleaned looking practically new.
I didn't use any cleaner, just water.
something worth considering.

Just cover things that seem imporatant to you. I covered the filter, distributor and altenator and some electrical connections I didn't feel comfortable spraying with water.
my engine bay sparkles. I suggest using steam if you can. I forgot to tighten my radiator cap(i know it was stupid) one time and I drove it around, and after a while steam was pouring out of my engine bay. Now I just spray it down with MEAN GREEN and it looks great.
I asked this question a while ago https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=421124 , and the best advie I have heard is make sure your engine is cold when you start to clean it, and then as soon as your down cleaning it, start it up and let it run. This way the engine will get hot and dry the parts you can't get to.
