I got a 87 Civic DX for free!!!!
well my brother-in-law works at a Ford dealership and one of the lot boys had a 87 civic dx and the timing belt on it went...Well too make a long story short my bro talked him out of it for free and he gave it to me.So my question is since the timing belt went do you think it fucked something else up?he mentioned something about a valve being bent so i was wondering if i could use a 85 si head on it ?...the dx is carb and the si is fuel injected but my boy told me i could still use the head is this true?it didnt sound right to me.
I'm in the same boat as you but I"m getting a 1984 civic automatic, blah. But I can't complain it free, but it needs a tranny. The head might be messed up, only way to find out is to put a timing belt on it and see what happens. I would rather put on a belt before ripping off the head. Not sure about the carburated head/fuel injected head. Only thing I know is that the si stock head has lower compression vs the dx head.
just drop in 1.6 dohc motor from 88~89 integra. those motors are fairly cheap..in fact, i have one for sale for $350

The correct motor to swap would be from an 86-87.

Not sure if the above two posts are directed at me. Regardless, in order to
swap in the D16A1 from an 1G Integra into a 3G Civic/1G CRX you need to get
it from a 86-87. This is because the later version motor 88-89 has a different
front mount.
Also, you have an 87 Civic Dx. This means it's carburated, which will require you
to swap to fuel injection. This is really labour intesive, but worth it in the end.
Your best bet is to find an Si parts car, since parts to do this could get pricey if
you're piecing everything together.
If you need any further help with options, etc. Check out www.redpepperracing.com/forms/
Hope this helps. Good luck.
