Default 2nd day with R and already having an issue...

Idles high.

When rolling at any speed above ~15mph, the car idles at about 1400 rpms. Then when I come to a stop the car drops to about 1100, but never lower.

If I turn the car off then back on, it returns to normal.

On a couple of occasions, the car would idle normal after I would turn on almost all the accesories, so I put in the battery from my '95 (under 6 months old) thinking that it might be a problem with charging, but the problem still persists.

If anybody can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it

I'll check all my grounds tomorrow, just to see if that may be a problem, I have a feeling that it might have to do with the electrical system in the car.

Thanks.

just bring it to the dealership and have them check it out. there could be so many possible things and just shooting in the dark like this is point less i think, and a waste of time. hope you get to the bottom of this.

It never goes below 1100?, Mine stays high for a while especially if I have been rippin around. Give it a day and see what happens maybe it will drop down.

Even you can say it's an R. Don't worry it's not that easy to break

Isn't 97's ODB1? I had a evap leak in my 00' and was throwing a code for it, but since yours is a ODB1 97' it may not be that sensative. Mine would idle high for a while and sometimes start idling real rough. Kinda like it had some very arge cams in it. The rough idle didn't happen everytime though. Seemed to happen the longe I sat at a light.

don't expect normal idle when car is moving.. and the idle doesn't always drop to 700-800rpm wehn your car comes to a stop - sometimes it drops right away and sometimes it stays for a little longer and drops.. i think normal idle should be anywhere from 700-1000 rpm.. - with stock ecu your idle won't drop if your lights are on or a/c

if you had your ecu reset recently, give it few days of startups and idle will improve.

96 and newer cars are ODB2.

My car idles around 1100 most of the time anyway, Id say thats fairly normal.

You wouldn't happen to be noticing this only while driving at night with your headlights on? That is normal.

Mine does that all the time. I was worried at first, now I just learn to accept it. It only happens in cold weather, or if I just got down beating on it.

same here, I was wondering too and I knew there was a posting regarding this earlier (2 months ago, couldn't find it), I have been noticing this since the beginning of the winter so I suppose it has something to do with the cold temperature. I brought my car to dealership today (some freaking a$$ bumped into me from the back yesterday!!! eerh, anyway) and I asked them to look into this issue as well. Will post if i hear anything from them (nah... dealership eh..)

did the weather play any role in this, sometimes cold weather will effect idle..

Sorry, wasn't sure about the ODB1 or not. I also noticed that when I would get off the expressway and got off, my car would idle kinda high (without the evap leak) and then drop. I asked about it and the dealer said it had something to do with the emissions on the car. Could you be noticing it after you drive it hard?

Regular idle on a C5 is higher then the other Integra motors while fast idle is a bit lower. I think 800/1500 on the C5 vs 700/1600 on the others.

Mine does that too. The idle speed is higher for the R (850 I think). Mine idles at 1-1.1k when I have the fan or some electrical on. You can check mine when we meet up tomorrow.

Mine does that too. ('01) Only after having it out on the highway or rippin around, then it drops to just under 1000 after coming to a stop for a minute or so...guy at the dealership told me it was supposed to do that...some crap about it's designed to keep the idle high, blah, blah , blah...all I heard was "it's fine" after that I was too busy trying to see the receptionist at the front of the dealership...OUCH!!! Hot.

If the car has over 30Gs on it ask the dealer or previous owner if a Valve Adjustment was done.

mine idles at about 1100. Only time it changes is after a run to VT when I get off the highway. But the air is thinner up there and its been over 4Gs for at least an hour and a half by then

Sounds normal to me

My friends 01 type R ..did the same thing..whenever you come to a stop..it would idle at 1100 rpms..and if you turn the car off..it idles at about 800..and if your driving on the freeway..and push the clutch in..it would be close to about 1500rpms..I dont think that is a problem....
