The compressor housing is hitting the webbing of the block on my 99 Civic Si B16a2. What do I have to do to get it to fit? i heard somebody saying about shaving that part off. But the guy that is installing it in is very weary about doing that. He wants to avoid doing so if he can, but I don't know how or if it is dangerous to shave it and how much is okay to shave.
Do I risk some serious structural ridgidy by shaving that part of my block?
Here are some pics so you can get a idea of what I'm looking at.
Let me know, I only have a little time to get this thing in and out of my friends place.

Looks like what you have to shave is very minimal. It shouldn't hurt anything at all. I've had to shave many blocks more then that and no problems at all. paul
Shaving a little webbing off won't hurt it, most of the turbo kits out there require you to shave that part of the block to fit the turbo on.

BTW, this is for the MAXREV manifold.
My .. friend who is putting on the turbo suggested that I should go with the T3 Turbo that he has sitting in his garage, but I dunno, I really wanna keep my big fat turbo. It's... bling yo.
But he is still afriad about structural rigidty. Do you guys think i will have any problems with it?
So far, you guys have said it seems to be okay. I'm supposed to call my friend tomarrow and let him know if I want him to shave the thingy, or cancel the whole thing all together.
It looks like I'm going to tell him to.. "shave it, just shave that ****."

Is just that webbing all I need to shave? Or will I need to shave that tab also.
I guess I shoudln't be saying "I need to shave" I'm paying my friend to do it, so .. I'll sit there, and watch.
Here's another pic of it.

BTW, I'd just like to say,
In about 15mins since I started this post, you guys have sent me all these replies so damn quickly. I was really going bonkers over this as this is my first turbo project, so when I saw that something didn't fit, I crap my pants.
Thanks for helping me out, and thanks for all the speedy advice.
I love you guys!

Oh yeah, does ANYBODY else also have a Maxrev kit on thier 1999 Civic Si's that they had to shave, or can show me what they did?
Well actually...almost every turbo install I have seen needed the block to be shaved...I guess you guys just have everything perfect in japan....
I have the maxrev mani and the 60-1 and I had to shave down the block some....that little shaving of the webbing isnt gonna hurt anything. Just use a dremel...

I've been putting my MaxRev kit on an SiR (Canadian version of an Si) and I had to shave that part too. Don't worry, it's really not that bad.
Remember to shave that little tab infront of the inlet on the compressor too.

I will, I will tell my freind tomarrow morning to shave that ****!
But another thing, my fans are really... crammed in there. Suggestions? Slimmer fans? What kind? And where to get them?
Cause.. the part when the manifold is and turbo si, they are really cramming it in therer, I don't even know if I can get the A/C back in it or not!

For all you maxrev guys.. okay, I'm shaving that damn block.. or.. I'm telling my freind to anyway. But what about the A/C fan? They had to take it off and they couldn't put it back in. Will I be able to put it back in once I shave the block?
Hence my previous post.. will I have to get new fans? Where/cost?

why can't you just turn the turbo so that the compressor is on the other side. To me it looks like you have the exaust side of the turbo aimed in. I know that if I put my turbo the other way then I would have to shave my block. But since I have it the other way there is alot of room.
I don't know if you can put the A/C fan in AFTER you put the mani/turbo on if that's what you're asking. I shaved the block then put the mani/turbo in, while the A/C fan was still on.

you do drive a 99civic Si? right? Just making sure.
You know that U shaped bracket on top of the A/C fan? I unbolted that and pulled the fan as close to the front as I can. Then drilled some new holes in the bracket to make it stay in this position. Then there's enough room to slide the turbo in from underneath. You just gotta play with it and angle it right then force it up there.
I have a 2000 SiR. Exact same thing. Except I have ABS.
