Is this normal. I was on my way home from work tonite and there is a bone stock VW Passat turbo next to me trying to race me. What can I say. I put it in third and took off and I only pulled him by about 1 1/2 cars. I dont know if this was a v6 turbo or just a 1.8t but it was still quick. My mods just conist of your basic boltons such as i/h/e my car is a 88' DX with a stock b18a bottom with a b16a head and a jdm S1 tranny. Is this normal?

I am a great driver. I know I can drive. I dont think im the best driver in the world or anything but I do know how to drive.

 

a stock compression ls vtec should just about hang with a 1.8t, it all depends on when you catch them in the gearing.

 

A 1988 HB with an LS-VTEC should CREAM a Passat 1.8t. Those VWs do have 180HP. But they are totally PIG HEAVY (~3000 pounds). On the other hand, your LS-VTEC may not be properly tuned. Are you running just a stock PR3/PW0 ECU? If so, you are not getting the power you should. Better cams also help. 1G JDM B16A cams are not going to work too well with a 1.8 liter bottom end. I would go for at least 2G B16A/GSR cams.

Listen to Storminmatt. He knows what he's talking about. But yeah, you should work a stock VW. My brother's near stock B16A CRX could easily easily take them out stock.

you should beat them no prob. i could pull a 1.8t gti by about 3-4 cars and he had a chip, intake, and exhaust. i had stock ls/vtec w/ a y1 tranny.

if you go to vw's web site they are talking bout some v6 turbo model. I think this could be what it was. I dont think it was a 1.8t i beat 1.8t golf's badly all day long.

 

There is no v6 turbo passat. Your options are:

W8 (8 cylinder n/a)
V6 ( 6 cylinder n/a)
1.8t (4 cyl turbo)

you have to remember, that you ran this car on a 3rd gear roll. if you where to run him out of the hole, the margin of victory would have been greater.
