Default curious: Sound Deadening

In a gen4 lude, how much does the total combined weight of the sound deadening material weight?(roughly even) + if it was taken out+ everything put back(carpet etc etc) how much louder would it bee?annoying over long trips? ALSO whats the best method to get it out/off? thanks

I did this last year... its a real pain in the *** and the stuff weighs a lot. It does help the sound, how much? couldn't tell you. But I'm going to pulling it all out this spring b/c plan racing more then going to sound-offs. The best way to take it off is w/ a heat gun or if you dont have one use a hair dryer.

freezing it is better. Comes off in giant chunks and leaves nothing.

I didn't really notice that it was louder it sounded more "crisp" and a lot of the little rattles were eliminated. But now I realize the sound gain per weight ratio is not worth it. That's why I'm going to take it out and see the difference... its been so long since I put it in and had so many changes in sound systems that I cant tell anymore!

yea quite right POSlude97, im refering to the sound deadening stuff that the honda company puts in to stop road noise etc, not aftermarket stuff for better sounds ,

my friend took some of that crap out of his crx and it was 5-10lbs, and that wasnt even all of it, so you would loose a few pounds. The ride is kind loud but not too bad unless you were going on long trips but if you werent planning on racing it all the time i wouldnt bother, just get a CF hood and save a few pounds that way and look nice in the process.

i took mine all out, plus gutted all the panels in the trunk and took out my back seats and it was reeeeeeeeeeeeeeallly loud, then again i had a complete exhaust system with no cat. but it did weigh quite a bit, all total i think i stripped close to 80-100lbs out of that car from the drivers seat back.

did you remove the rear seat belts? how about roof lining from where it's split?
i'm planning to take absolutely everything from the front seats back (if i keep my car). and i mean everything, carpet, sound deadning, seats, seat belts, rear deck, speakers, roof lining, OEM woofer, all panels, spare tire, basicaly everything i don't really need... by my calculations it would reduce the weight by some 100lbs... maybe more. that's why i'm asking, so i can compare...
i hope it's not gonna be too loud. my EG was hella loud when i gutted it...

sonny, i took out the back seats, carpet, all the floormats, sound deading rubber, rear seat panels, seat belts, brackets, center console brackets(center console intact just took off the hefty 10lb bracket that does nothing but sit there and bounce). took out the back seat brackets, rear divider, spare, jack and tools, rear trunk panel, side trunk panels, spare cover, interior tailight covers, i even took out the visors (hehe, it was track day, every little bit counts right? ).....also now that i totalled that lude, i plan on taking off the "bumper support beams" that do no good whatsoever at a 10mph collision, the way i see it......if it crumpled that fast and didn't help to protect me or my engine, it's just a useless piece of metal, and since i don't plan on wrecking this one, i don't need it, cuz if i did get in a wreck, with my history.....it will be a total loss either way ......and for those of you who asked, with all of this out, and having i/h/e and no cat, it was loud above 4k, other than that, it was a constant drone for me at 2-3k, and at times it can be very annoying, my advice, keep all your speakers and blare the music , otherwise you might be a little annoyed, that or drive with ear pieces, jk. and to whoever asked the question, i never intended to put it back in, that is why i took it out because when you take the back seats out, it is very tricky not to break the plastic clips. but i did go on a trip one day and i put it all back in (for the most part, minus the trunk stuff) and it wasn't too bad, if you guys have a muffler with a silencer option that would be my advice for you guys. it might get loud, but if you are all out speed, there is no better way to get faster for free than to ditch some weight, also i recommend the subway diet, jarrod is doing good, so i thought i'd give it a try lol

the secret tool that will make a world of difference is a heat gun...........just heat that rubber crap up and it comes off in huge pieces. and use a paint scraper, it's easier to use than a chissel, flat blade, or knife.

well the front one is no good anyway. it's too low if your car is lowered, so it won't really help much. unless you hit a wall or something. but if you rear-end someone, chances are that the point of impact will be above the bumper support bar. i have yet to see a car whose rear is as low as our lowered front. lol... i don't know about the rear bar... that may be of some help.
but then again, if you take it off, there is always that "what if"... and i would always be paranoid about it... i don't know. those are kind of heavy, i'd love to get ride of them.
