Vaguely OT: Any Triangle folk need a press?
So I need some bushings replaced on the old wagon, rear suspension stuff. I take the torque arms off and trot off to the dealership, then blow an absurd amount of cash on four hunks of rubber and steel. I give a sob story to the service writer, hoping he'll sneak them in on the side. No dice. $75 to install.
Northern has a 6-ton hydraulic press that I think will work just fine on sale for $59.99. Problem is, I most likely will only need it for these four bushings, and the strict budget doesn't quite allow for tool purchases
Any locals need a press, and would you be willing to buy this one off me when I'm done with it? I'll take a loss - I just need to get my wagon back on the road.

The thing weighs 60lbs... that's going to cost you a kidney to ship.
Pat, the guy with the shop where my race car is stored has a press. I am going over there tomorrow to mess with the car. You are welcome to use it. I will IM you my phone number.
The better question is if any of us have a press you can borrow. I have a Harbor Freight 6 ton unit (I think it's the 6 ton press, it's not real big) you are welcome to try out. Take it home, or bring the parts by and do it in my garage.

Excellent!! Thanks, fellas.
I'll get it touch with one/both of you Sunday or early next week. I won't get garage time until then
's all around!!

If you decide to buy it let me know ASAP. I am going to Harbor Freight tomorrow, and, among other things on my list, I was planning to buy a press just like that
So you have a taker if you get me before I buy one. Then again, if I get it and Cary is closer for you, you can come and use it. I'll be putting a rollbar in the Miata on Sunday, so I'll be around.
(Way OT, does anyone local have an airless paint sprayer? I'm planning on buying one of those tomorrow too if I can't borrow one
)

I just (30 minutes ago) picked up a 12-ton floor-standing press from Northern for $120. The cheap 6-ton ones from Harbor Freight and Northern tool were flimsy and don't have enough working space. So I got the cheapest floor-standing unit:
In case that link doesn't work, it's item #14590

Not being familiar with presses, do these come with different "attachments" or is that something you'd buy separately as you need them? $120 is certainly worth it for me, as I'd be looking at paying a good bit more to get them done for me at a repair shop. I wouldn't mind spending all day on the job if I knew I'd be able to handle it on my own... The E/S master bushing kit would next be calling my name.

You need another track toy like a hole in the head...
I believe I remember saying that the Miata would not be a track toy
The rollbar is to replace the non-ES-legal chassis stiffening I have done, and since I just don't feel safe on the street w/o rollover protection.
It's a hardtop bar, and my head sticks up an inch over the top of the bar. Does that answer your question? No track duty for that car
Unless the BMW breaks (which is a good possibility with how I have been driving it lately)
On topic - got the press put together, looks pretty good!
