Default popping noise?

I keep hearing a slight popping noise coming from the front my drivers side. It sounds like it is coming from somewhere around the wheel area? This only happens when I hit the brakes! Could it be my upper ball joint? maybe my axle? I checked the suspension and everything seems tight. Any ideas on what it could be?

The CV joints usually pop only when turning, unless the axle is "very" worn. Typically the driverside axle will pop when turning left. Recheck the suspension components. Upper/lower ball joint and tie rod end. use a pry bar to see there is relative motion between the components.
