I asked this a few days ago. You "should" be fine if your engines balanced. And, yes, just keep the belt off.

Yes, you can just leave the belt off, It will not cause any problems. I you want to pull the shafts out, you will have to plug up the oil holes that oil the balance shafts.

What would happen if you didnt , you would lose oil psi?

Great I think I am just going to not put the belt back on .
That should be good for a little faster reving right?

pretty much you should be fine. But I'm not going to tell you it's okay. I mean it does increase vibration, no direct causes of engine failure though, it's your risk to take.

Yeah you will lose oil pressure. Im not sure of any HP or faster reving advantage with not having the belt, (never had an H22 with the shafts) but it must help a little, less drag on the motor.

satan_srv

You think that I will have engine vibration even with the whole engine balanced.
crank to rods to pistons.
Why would I have any vibration ?

the balancer shafts are counterweighted and spin at 2X the speed of the engine to counter the vibration inherent in I4 engines. the only reason they put em in there is for us fat americans who hate for things to vibrate the car, same reason they have mushy engine mounts and lots of heavy sound deadning. removing the belt will have about the same effect as putting in the poly ES engine mount inserts and will not cause any harm to the engine. the engine responds like it has a lightened flywheel. frees up around 8-12 hp across the board and allows the engine to rev faster

see you don't get it. no matter how balanced your motor is the I4 will create 2nd order vibrations. It's not like the vibrations on the crank.

B16's aren't as big as h22's...the general rule in the auto industry with !4's has been 2.0l and up. Of course some above that 2.0l come from factory without the shafts but most do. I just took my belt off and it vibrates more but the gain is worth it.

So in your opinion would you do it if you were me?
How bad is the vibration?
Should I take the poly motor mounts out?
Or will I be able to tolerate it with both in ?
Thank you for the advice every one.

pulled my belt off a couple weeks ago, quite simple, hardest part is removing the crank pulley bolt... cant report any gains since its been well over a month since i last went to the track, the motor does seem to rev a bit easier...

as far as vibration goes, i love it... ive got teins with pillowballs, mount inserts, removed interior, partially removed tar, on top of the removed balancer belt... if you want a smooth cadillac-like ride, dont do it... there is a low rpm buzz-like tone and several new vibrations coming from the dash and the front bumper area... i want to say from the driver's seat, the vibration feels like motor mount inserts x3...
