Default Question about taking night pics

Hey guys, I want to know what kind of settings you change your camera to for good night pics? I saw some pics taken by MTK Kommander of his friends Z at night, and wow those ***** look beautiful. Everytime I take night pics they never come out nice like that. So any suggestions on what kind of settings I can switch to would be helpful. I wanna take some dope *** pics like that.

Here are some of his pics that I'm talkin about.

i use a tripod, i set my whitebalance to whatever it needs to be set at.. then i do a long shutter speed, usually 15 seconds depending on light.. and i usually let the camera adjust the fstop by itself, unless the lights are coming out too bright, i either go higher fstop or faster shutter..

edit:
i should be buying some filters one of these days.. im sick of street lights and background lights runining my shots..

set it "aperature". It's basically adjusting the shutter sped to auto.

Say you had a manual camera, you would adjust the f stop and shutter speed until your lighting gauge read good, and then you would take the pic...

Basically with aperature on digitial cameras, the camera will sense how long the shutter needs to be open to obsorb all of the light, giving it that deep, rich look. The lights look beautiful as well.

When you do this, the shuter wil be open for anywhere between 5 seconds and 30 minutes....so a tripod is necessary.

30 min sutter would be a nice highway shot with all the trails of tail lights and such. That would look so sweet.

the lights from the cars wouldn't even be in the shot...thats the crazy thing, if it was a 30 minutes shutter. it would look like an empty highway, unless there was a continuous steady stream of cars the whole time.

you'd be suprised....I haven't seen any digi shots with 30 minute shuter speeds, but my old photo teacher had a photo she took in a hotel lobby with a 30 minute shutter speed! The colors were SOOO deep and it wasn't over exposed or anything. People were walking in and out all day but not one "flash" of a person was visible.

I've taken some shots with like 2 minute exposer at night with my manual camera...come out really cool...but there's a LOT of trial and error

So basically there is no way I can take shots like this without a tripod right?

true, but I get sick of seeing SO many night shots at ground level. Grab a chair, trash can, concrete wall, whatever...but you can get a decent tripod for 30 bucks

I still use the one my Dad used for 20 years

What kind of dig cam do you use where you can set shutter speeds? the one my mother has you can't do any of that and it wasn't too cheap.

what kind of camera are you using is it manual or automatic? or can you change your settings, because if you can't or don't know how the helpful hints that they have given you won't mean a thing

edit: look in the first picture you posted you see their reflection with the tripod

also go to a place where lighting is shinning down wards and higher than the car. *notice the garage light from across the street reflecting on the car. also dont take a picture if you can see a light through the camera. *for example the porch light in the back
