Transmission oil for Hondas: which is best?
It's time for me to change my tranny fluid in my Y21. When I went shopping for oil there's so many different choices I had no idea what to choose. There's synthetic, conventional, conditioned and durable-- and that's just the ones that claim to be the best... Bla.. What does it all mean?
In the past I've heard people swear by redline synthetic oil, and others rave Honda OEM.. I want the best at pretty much any cost within reason (less than $15 qt.) What's the best and why?
Thanks guys!

I have tried
Honda MTF
Redline MTF
and Syncroshift
Redline was less notchy than honda, but still notchy overall
Syncroshift was much less notchy than both, my tranny shifts like a dream now.

what about that gm syncromesh stuff? Anybody used that? I've heard good things about it before.
honda mtf=stock engine
redline=modified engine
I've used both and redline is better because it's design for extreme driving where honda mtf is design for daily driving. other's will disagree with me on this but this is my .02

Don't use redline. If anyone is familiar with Mista Bone ask him about this. He will tell you to take apart a honda tranny that has used redline and see why not to use it.

Obviously taking apart one tranny that you had run redline in and finding problems is hardly evidence that redline was the problem. I seem to see that alot around here as far as oil and tranny fluid. (not that this is definetly the case in this situation or anything)
Bone has more experience with D-series trannies than anyone i know. I trust anything he says about a tranny more than anything else i read, see, or hear.
I just changed over from straight 10w30 motor oil to honda MTF and oh my what a difference. The shifts are much smoother and I hardly ever have trouble getting the tranny into 1st from a slow roll like I used to. Definately go with genuine honda stuff, they know what they're doing.
Redline will fry the imput bearings DO NOT USE IT.
I have replaced 5 imput bearings, and all 5 owners of the vehicles used redline for extended periods of time. Tague (Bone) will agree with me on this one.

Castrol GTX 10w30. Also Honda MTF is basically just 10w30 motor oil. So dont everyone act like its all special just cause Honda sells it. Some people think the same about Honda oil filters and they are just Fram filters. (made for Honda). Ive never had any problems with 10w30. Been wanting to try out some syncromesh though and see what thats all about.
Ya, last time i checked honda filters are made by Nippon denso. And fram filters are american POS.
