Would an exhaust leak slow me down?
I think I need to fix my header problem ASAP.. Other day I was on i95 and I ran into a Celica GT (GT, not GTS!) - the new ones, now - he was pretty cocky and pushing the race by downshifting a couple times and waiting on me so he might have not been stock but he LOOKED stock. I was in 3rd gear at about 6000 RPM's when we both floored it. HE PASSED ME
I was at his back bumper !!
This happened to me once also with a Altima (older model, stick) 3rd gear roll, vtec screaming and I barely beat him.. However, from a stop after wheel hopping 1st and 2nd cuz of shitty tires I pulled him in 3rd like he was standing still.. but from a roll on a highway, he was right there with me??
What gives, am i losing power? I have perfect compression 215-220, 230, 220.. 2 of my header bolts are stripped and I can hear an exhaust leak because it's not tight but can it make that type of difference?
Also my timing is advanced to 18, heard that kills your top end, any truth to that?
Very confused

My title is fine. I'm not gonna explain everything in the title, hence why there is a "BODY" to each post.
Far as Street Racing - It was 3 AM with no traffic on the road and at the end of 3rd I was probably at 80 something mph which YOU probably cruise at. I'm not driving 150 something miles to Moroso everytime I want to push my car

if u know ur header is leaking then u should get it fixed
if u still have the problem after that then it could be a number of things. one of the main factors in losing (or winning) a race is the driver's ablility.

Depending on the size of the leak, it can cause problems. You should get the studs drilled out and replaced ASAP. Its a pain due to the location of them, and how deep they are. You have to be real careful if you plan on doing it yourself.
I consider myself a good driver, not the best - but good.. That aside, I don't see how it takes much driver skill to be in 3rd gear and flooring it next to another car, no shifting involved - I would kick myself in the *** if I was at 3-4000 RPM's in 3rd gear but I was WELL into VTEC at about 6100 RPM's in 3rd when we went
I guess I'll get this exhaust leak fixed, sigh!

Get that fixed, regardless of the race, get it fixed. If 2 are loose, then it is rattling. Possibly ever so slightly, but it is. The more the movement, the batter your chances of loosing more studs....
Unless your spooling a turbo, then a leak is not going to hurt you. It will contribute to the heat of the bay, but that would be minimal.....
