MY friend drives an autoaccord. He still has fun and enjoys autocrossing, and he drives it well. And im pretty sure that is all that matters. I go for the adrenaline and people and cars. And nobody will laugh at you, only help or encourage you, i found this out last season. And one last thing if you cant drive a manual.....learn, whe i learned to drive manual, it made driving to the store disney land. -jake

Just shift it into second and leave it there.

Heh.. in Philly Region, we've got Tom Platt autocrossing an automatic Pontiac Grand Am, and he's gotten to the point where puts up nice times with it.. It's about the driving..

I've heard plenty of people taking an automatic rental car to the track..

I have a 02 IS300, I just stick it in 2nd, turn of Traction Control, and turn ECT so I can get it to redline, and awaaaaaay I go.

Just curious, wouldn't the tranny overheat if you kept on beating on it?

i autocross my integra and it's automatic, and i have as much fun as anyone out there ... it's all about driving skills, ohh one of the instructors drove my car and i told him it was an automatic at first, and he said so what, he drove it and cut my time by like 6 secs. he was good then i did what he did, and i also cut my time by almost 6 sec. so automatics can be up there with manuals, ohh and i sometimes leave it in 2nd or 3rd, sometimes at 1 and upshift to 2nd, still the same outcome

An automatic is a great way to practice your left foot braking skills. Two pedals, two feet...why not? Some will tell you the variable gear ratio of the torque converter can actually be used to your advantage in some way.

As other said, leave it in second so it won't hunt for gears and will have some chance to engine decel.

I autocrossed my 1993 Civic Ex automatic back in 1997, 1998, 1999. Won PA State Championships in 1998 and took 3rd place Divisionally in 1999 It can be done.
