Getting ready to order my ZC from hmotorsonline
Finally gonna do it. I'd say the most advanced thing I've dont to my car so far is replacing an axle or installing shocks/coilovers. I did do a swap with a friend in his 89 hatch.. tho the car still doesnt run. Hopefully dropping the ZC in wont be too hard. I've got a couple lil questions.
Im gonna be using my Si tranny.. will I just have to take the Si tranny off the Si block then take the Si pressure plate and Si clutch off the Si block and put the Si pressure plate and Si clutch on the ZC flywheel (ZC flywheel will come already on the ZC right?). Will I need an alignment tool to get this done? Where can I get one from?
Is it a MUST that I port match the Si exhaust manifold to the ZC block? I want to do it but I dunno how I'd do it.. would a dremel work? Also, will I have to port match a DC header when I get one?
What kind of people ship engines.. its not Fedex or UPS is it? How am I sposed to get it off the truck or does the truck driver do it? Alot of my questions are questions that I just dont know because I've never gone through the whole experience before.
What kind of coolant should I be using in the ZC?
All the bolts on my car are insanely tight... which ones do you think I'll have the biggest problems with? (I know the exhaust is gonna be a real bitch).
Im gonna call Steve at hmotorsonline tomorrow after school.. think there should be anything I should try to request? Im already gonna see if he can get me a 91 motor instead of a 88-90 just so I'll know its the newest... any other tips?
Thanks in advance for all the help. I had to work for a while to get this money.. I dont wanna waste it by doing something wrong.
Heres of a pic of what the ZC is gonna be going into..

grrr, I wish I could get some help. I didnt ask for someone to give me suggestions on setups but I've already made up my mind on the ZC. Im not tryin to be rude since I DO want help.. but that just annoyed me.
If I really wanted to, I could do all that to the ZC and be even quicker.. Im looking for a better platform.. the engine wont stay stock.

, i hated mine, pretty sad when my stock 91 DX with MPFI swap would damn near beat ZC powered CRX's

damn, thanks for all the info, you answered all of my questions.. but why will I have to take off the crank pully?
Oh n/m, you're talking about when I replace the ZC timing belt arent you.. right?

If your Zc flywheel isnt resurfaced when you get it, make shure you get it resurfaced, it s only like 30 bucks, ive seen people who didnt get there flywheels resurface and it messed up there clutches.

If you not changing the timing belt then you don't have to. Sometimes the exhaust manifold comes cut in half. And about Steve doing the flywheel, I'm pretty sure he won't. He is a busy man with alot of orders to complet.

ok, dr. I just got my motor (complete swap) b16 from them, and i'm pretty sure if you order the zc you get both pieces of the exhaust manifold, and i'd use that instead of the si one, the si one was used on a 108 hp motor and the zc is used on a 130 so it would make sense to use the zc. Also about getting the motor delievered, do you have abuddy that owns a shop?? or know anybody who would let you deliever it to there shop, cause that will be the easiest way, also if you don't want to pay 65 bucks so the truck will have a lift gate, you better make sure the shope has either a forklift or a engine hoist. If you don't want to go this route you could just give hmotorsonline any shops address, and when he gives you the tracking number you can clal the company, **** i forgot the name but he deals with the same people everytime and they are real cool, you can then ask them where the nearest docking station is, and they will tell you and thne you can go pick the motor up at the docking station, they will have a forklift so bring your pickup and they will probably help you get the engine in your truck, it was no biggie for us. I wsa gonna ship it to a local shop but found out it would cost more money to get it off the truck so i called the company and asked them to send it to closest shipping station and it was all good. I know you have already made up your mind but if i were you i'd also get the zc tranny and put the si final drive in it, this would make for a faster car, and if you are worried about high rpm's in fifth you could get the hf fifth gear, shipping cost me 250 bucks (commercial zone) but that was all the way to kentucky, If you've got anymore questions my aim name is one of these two:

Thanks, and yea I agree thats pretty sad. Next time you might wanna try learning how to drive that ZC.

anyway i would change your timing belt before you put the motor in, ive had people get ZC's and the belt snapped in under 100's miles, better safe then sorry
most likely you can use the ZC upper half of the header and SI for the bottom.
the ZC flywheel and clutch will work fine, if you want to change to si you dont need to resurface if its the same clutch that came off the flywheel. if its a differnt clutch then yes for sure resurface
oh and you better start stocking up on distributors casue it will go out on you, 90% of ZC's have this problem

Talk to Steve about the exhaust manifold, ask him if it will come with the hole thing or if it will be cut. Tell him you want the full exhuast manifold.
Thanks for all the info guys.. phathardy.. I imed you.
Timmay, I thought you were saying that your ZC was slower than your DX..? Thanks for the info though. If I wanted to go through the trouble, would I be able to just swap over the Si flywheel onto the ZC? I'll most likely go ahead and get teh ZC resurfaced but Im just curious.
90blackcrx, Im gonna talk to Steve and see what happens. I got the exhaust porting idea from here: http://thenew.gamesbbs.com/~dmoore/zc-phase3.htm Check out the part where it talks about the manifolds.

Don't listen to this guy, i believe the DOHC ZC is one of the best motors for the money. I live in Mich, so i just go up to Canada to get mine, i spent $400 U.S. on it. Best $400 i've ever spent. And having an Si your starting from a better point, you don't have to change your hubs or add as many wires to your ecu, i'm not sure what size your spindles are but you may actually get to reuse your axles. If not get 2 right 90-91 teg axles if you have the intermediate shaft. You'll also have to run wires for the cam position sensor. If you need help with it e-mail me i'll tell ya what u need to know. Other than that do what those other guys said, resurface the flywheel, definately change the timing belt while it's out, and inspect all of your hoses carefully before u install it. This is just a little extra if you have some extra cash, if you take the final drive out of the ZC tranny and install it in the Si tranny you'll end up with a better gear ratio. If not sell the ZC tranny on ebay, i got $200 for mine. Hope your swap goes smooth

your SI axles work just fine, the stock ZC clutch and flywheel should work just fine
wow , ur a testy fella aren't ya. I'm not denying your " vast " racing knowledge, but i've driven with both motors and i prefer the ZC. And the part about parts being hard to find for the ZC, almost all D-series parts fit on them, so it's really not that big of a problem. Now go to the fridge, grab a beer and settle down.
oh its all good dude, i just dont like ZC's they arent all that people think they are. im just saying that IMO the d16a6 is a way better motor and is a better platform that the ZC
i wish i had some beer or even pop, god im thirsty
