Dumb Question: Do GSR's have oil coolers?
i always thought only ITR came with them...but i heard from a guy on hybrid that b18c1 and c5 motors came with oil coolers which are exactly the same

could you install a oil cooler on a 2000 gsr and would it benefit in any way?
yes and yes!
yes and yes!
I don't think adding an oil cooler (or a better oil cooler) to a stock GS-R which sees street and autocross duty is going to provide much benefit at all. Just my $.02
[edit] originally called oneupster a post *****, then decided that wasn't fair.

Basically, and oil cooler will allow the oil to last longer. You'd be hard presses to see any significant cooling in the motor due to an oil cooler. However, in race cars and whatnot, where the oil takes a beating for a long period of time, an oil cooler is very beneficial to longevity.
FYI, my 96 GSR never came with one. I'm just going with a B&M front mount unit.

I wish I would've saved mine after I blew my original motor. I replaced it with an OBD2 block which has no cooler... too bad I didn't know that back then. Oh well.
its called a sandwich oil cooler....cuz its sandwiched between the block and the filter

And yes, I will be installing an oil cooler from a type r on my 98gsr. need a new more parts. but hey, I got the oil cooler for a great deal.
i have a 94 gsr and you say they DO come with oild coolers , where are they and what do they look like , i wanna put another in but i dont no which one to go with . . . whats the cheapest one or ( i know not the cheapest >>most effective , without re routing things just like a bolt in , if there is such a thing . . . . thanks
yes it is sorta benificial. But if you don't have a lot of money to waste your better off with another upgrade.
The OEM oil cooler can be installed to ANY b seires. B20 for sure.. a memeber did a write up about the installment a few months ago. Looks nice.

They are behind the oil filter.
And, I agree, there are a lot more beneficial things to do, even in terms of motor longevity than an oil cooler. Although, if your main objective is to cool the oil, well, thats a start

the stock oil cooler in the older gsr is just a round heat sink. It doesnt have fins on it like a radiator...but its better than nothing. If your not driving your car like a racer i dont think u even need one. Save your money and get something else.
