Default Spring/Shock Install

I just got Tokico Illuminas and H&R Sports. I'm trying to find out what a reasonable price is to have them installed. A local tire shop where I live said they could do it including an alignment for around $400!!!! I was like WTF! So, I called a few places in Tampa, which is like an hour away and the quotes I got were around $130 - $150 without the alignment. Is this reasonable?

around here it's around $40/hour for the spring/shock install (shouldnt take over 2 hours for a experienced mechanic) and about $50 for a 4-wheel alignment. you can expect somewhere around that.

Just do the install yourself man. Set aside some time, get the right tools, get a manual, and an extra pair of hands.

You'll learn a lot about your car, it's a good learning experience.

I was thinking about trying that. But, honestly i'm not that good at stuff like this. So, i'm not sure if I should try it. I dont wanna mess anything up.

Get someone somewhat mecanically inclined but do the work yourself.

As long as you follow the manual you can't go wrong, I did it.

not hard... look for someone locally w/ experience who is willing ot help you out for like lunch in return or something. Not hard at all, but an extra experienced hand is always helpful

just watch it with the spring compressors. When I was compressing my stock springs to get them off and install my coilovers, they would periodically pop off the springs. Its very dangerouse because if the compressor broke off and flew into yoru chest, it would probably kill you.

It helps to have someone around that has done it before.

Be careful with taking off the compressed stock springs, don't use a cheap *** spring compressor. If your experienced with this, it can be done without a compressor.

you should be able to find a performance shop in town that will do it for a decent rate 400 w/ and alignement is bull **** just find a performance shop and the should charge you any more than 150.00 for the install and take the car after about a week or so to get it aligned wait that long so the springs can settle in place and an alignment if about 50.00 with a coupon.

try doing it yourself but make sure you get a spring compressor (either buy one from an auto parts store for like $11) or i think autozone lends them

Yeah...i'm gonna most likely still take it into a performance shop to have it done. So, is it not a good idea to have the alignment done right away? Could anything go wrong if i wait to get the alignment?

If its a performance shop it will probably take them about an hour and shouldn't cost you more then $80 bucks. If they charge you more then that they are ripping you off.

Well the alignment probably won't reset your camber back to zero. They will just get your castor and toe back in line which is just as important if not more important than the camber. You're going to need to purchase a camber kit in order to get it back to the original point. If not chances are they will just reset it back within 1 degree or so depending how big of a drop you have.

Plus, you can rent compressors from some parts stores.

do the install yourself...it's so easy, unbelievably easy actually...there is nothing that you can do to mess anything up...well i take that back:

if you put the damn rear sleeves in the front that happens...whoops...anyways, it's really easy to do yourself...you should do it, there's nothing that can go wrong!

LOL, how is that possible? The rear springs can't go in the front...can they? The perch on the shock is smaller on the front than it is on the rear
