Default Can someone explain the ecu thing to me!!

Hey, I have read all the time about OBDII ecu and OBDI P72 but I have no idea what benefit these/they provide. Can someone explain what they do, benefits, pros, cons etc about them.

I drive a 2000 LS, do these only really help with vtec?

Tried search but didn't really answer my question.

Thanks in advance,

Beefy

LS don't have Vtec.

OBDI chips are more easily tuned.

I know ls doesn't have vtec, I guess it wasn't that clear in my post.

I kinda got the indication that one was easier to tune, but what is it tuning?? What can you control or adjust? Which one or do I have either one in my car (Engine is pretty much stock). Would the OBDI benefit my LS or does it only really benefit a vtec engine?

Thanks,

OBD I is helpful on all cars --- as tweakmaster mentioned, its more easily tuned, however, it also negates many of the emissions **** that OBD II forces on our poor motors, and makes the motor respond better to modification.

Well...you have OBD I already...so you could just get your ECU chipped, but I wouldnt do it unless you have a decent setup going for ya (i.e. cams, intake manni)...what do you have done?

well right now, just a AEM CAI is the ony performance upgrade. but in the future, as the headers, cam gears, cam shafts and pistons etc go in...what would be your suggestion. as this is all happening soon. heard some things about 'hondata'?
