philly autox follow-up
usually aj starts this post but i have not seen one yet, so here it is. i thought the track was laid out nice: long, fast, and nice slalom. i still have yet to get a clean (dry) run with those azenis. those puddles at the beginning, first turn, and after the slalom were killer. i spun twice on my first run and was losing grip on the subsequent runs. left was the way to go in the slalom (this coming from the subaru contingency). i went right, obviously. i still had fun, as usual, and am looking forward to the 23rd at fedex.
here is a video of my "slippy, short shift" start.

the snow piles messed up a lot of the shot (which came from a digital camera with no zoom).
peace all.

I like the track last saturday. Specially the long circle at the begining where you gain a lot of speed and balancing power to stay in line while slightly drifting.
I also like the slalom because you can take it at a good speed and get the car to squirm a little bit. I got too greedy and spun really bad and almost hit the snow banks.
It was fun figuring out how to regain control until I realized there is no way so I just sat and wait to stop while skidding sideways.
Did not do good but I had a lot of fun!

This winter is so depressing.
I need to run my Hoosiers some day this year.
Needless to say the course was a lot of fun. The slalom was interesting along with the two important turn-arounds.

btw: I can't seem to open the links.

That was a fun course! The course was pretty complex and very long for for a philly region course. I was surprised that there were not more OCs especially with the number of novices there. The event went very smoothly. A lot of spinning, but no big incidents. And we wrapped it all up by 3pm.
What the heck is going on this year? There are some total n00bs putting up some very impressive performances. I guess street tires are the ultimate equalizer... Last event a complete newbie gets 1st place DS, PAX AND FTD and another n00b wins SM. This event, a kid comes to his first auto X ever and destroys some pretty experienced drivers in GS, winning the class by 1.4sec and taking 3rd in overall PAX!
Andrew - whose excuse is that he was running on snow tires

I hear John kicked some *** (or so he tells me). I still wasn't there because:
1) Snow tires
2) I was busy torsion testing our chassis (that was a sight to see...)
3)3) My car looks like this. Body shop had better be done with it in time for the evo school this april

yeah, john placed second in the PAX...he is really becoming an awesome driver, beating many of the instructors.
what happened? i never knew you were in a crash! ouch! hope all goes well with that.

Yeah, back when the snowbanks were six feet high someone pulled out in front of me and I nailed him. Damage is $4500, covered with insurance. I'm trying to get it fixed but the body shop is backed up... I will be so pissed if I miss the Evolution school. Car is drivable (no power steering) but I doubt it will pass tech in its current condition.
I don't know about anyone in particular regarding the placings you're talking about, but I do know that I've talked to a couple of guys who have said, "Yeah, I'm a complete novice.." and then you talk with them a little more, and find out they've been karting for 5 or so years..
Of course, that doesn't mean it's not impressive!
