How do you find out the year of an engine?
year: above the #3/4 cylinders (remember it goes backwards, 4,3,2,1)
there are a few stamps
the year will look like
9|1 9|2 9|3 etc.
thats the year.
if you have a heat shield on, you will have to remove it to see the year.
and as for stolen or not, if its JDM there is no way to tell
if its usdm you can run the vin, or have the police check it. but they usually wont run it unless you bring the motor in so if it is stolen they can confiscate it.

This is the easiest way.
If you only have the block you have to run the serial number.

like kamin said there is NO way to tell if a JDM motor is stolen, plus it would be very difficult to steal a JDM motor.... scratch that it would be IMPOSSIBLE to steal a JDM motor from Japan. As for the year, Kamin said it... If i have a pic of this on my comp. If you want to see it email me.
u can run a vin check on a usdm motor at chp but if it is stolen then they take it away!!!!! but if its jdm then u cant really tell if its stolen.
