Axle Seal being a b&*ch...
I just installed my new trans/clutch/timing belt. The a6 is reborn and feels new. The only problem encountered is the friggin pass. side axle seal. I replaced it twice since Saturday night(when the install was done). I cant get it to seal. Help. (I have another new seal ready to roll) I cannot get it to sit flat and seal properly.
Yeah I know that the one is larger. I'm not that retarded. Thing is I can't get the proper one to sit flat, no matter how much I tap it. And no the trans isn't fucked up.
I have encountered the same thing before, I've replaced quite a few and one was giving me problems, I used grease to coat the whole damn thing and to try and help keep that little spring in tact. Put it up there and used the 32mm socket (used for hub nut) to gently push this thing in. You gotta kinda start from one side then go directly across from the spot you pushing it in at. Until you get it completly seated. NOTE: don't push it in too far, I have done this before. I thought I didn't have it seated and crammed it in there, only to find out that I pushed it in so far that the rubber was sitting against moving parts of the tranny (diff?). Nothing leaked at first then after a while it just chewed the hell out of the seal and I had to do it all over again....... Hope this helps if you could even understand it....(kinda hard to explain.)
