buzzing or vibration when shifting from 4th to 5th?
Everytime I'm headed to 5th gear from 4th, specifically from that magic point between neutral and 5th gear there is a *buzz* or vibration noise. I can't figure it out at all. Anyone have any ideas?
Can you narrow it down? Couple suggestions...
Do you shift 4->5 at the same rpm as your other shifts? Try shifting others like 1>2 & 2>3 at the exact same rpm & tell us if it makes the same noise.
Can you get it to make the same noise by revving when you're parked? Try it with the transmission in gear, clutch disengaged. Then with the trans. in neutral, clutch engaged or disengaged. When does it make the noise, when doesn't it?
If you can do that, then have somebody listen under to hood to narrow down the location of the noise. Sitting in the driver's seat the location will sound very misleading.
I suppose if its exhaust heatshields rattling, it won't matter which gear. If its clutch or throw-out bearing, then it will change depending on what you do with the clutch.

mine was the exhaust manifold wasn't tight...the gasket was viberating..but if i can't hear it i guess i can't really tell you what it is.
it only makes the noise from moving to 4th to 5th, using those rpms in other gears doesn't make the noise. Reving in neutral doesn't make the noise. I've got a turbo so no stock heat shielding to deal with. I also have no shielding on my cat. The only thing i havent checked is what happens if i try and rev match without using the clutch.
my friends prelude did this. it was his transmition. we figured if you let off the gas and then shift when there is no rpm's(idle) and then press the gas again. the noise went away but eventually he had to replace his transmition. not exactly sure what it was but i just remember that he had to replace the whole transmition. hope this helps.
