Default What intake/induction system to get ['96 gs-r]

I'm looking at a AEM V2 (are they out? I'm pretty sure they are...) or CAI. The V2 is damn near $300 though! Some other people are saying to get an "icebox?" I'm not sure what that is/how it works. What do you guys recommend, not of the two, but in general?

i would say plan for the future. if you think you'll go turbo, don't bother with an intake. if your thinking you might go n/a and you get somthing like a new manifold, you'll need a different intake.
so what are you palns for the car, daily driver with just boltons/track car/beater?

get some cheapo intake and spend the money elsewhere... unless you have CARB to deal with.

if I have an intake for b18b1 and I were to purchase a skunk2 intake manifold, it'll no longer fit?

for a b18b1 i think you can use the same one, but for a gsr the aem cai wont fit right anymore. you need to modify it.

It may be listed there but it has yet been released for the Integra GSR.

The V2 is damn near 350...I wouldnt get it...spend your moeny on something else...leave the stock intake seriously, get exhaust if you dont have it or suspension, and I know you want to turbo anyways right? Dont waist money on an intake, put it in your turbo fund...or buy some custom 3 inch piping for exhaust....just my .02

I would get the Comptech Icebox (169.99) and Comptech Foam Air Filter (69.99). Its what I use on my car and its a very good intake, if not the best. Its a hybrid design, like Mugen, take a look:

IM or Email me whatever you decide to go with and I'll try to hook you up with a good price. Those prices above are retail prices and I can get you the parts for a discount off of that.

i had an iceman intake for my car for 3 years. i loved the thing. it was cheap and sounds good. never got a chance to dyno it so i don't know what numbers i had with it, but my butt dyno said it made an improvement. now i have the skunk2 im and itr aem cai. i still have the iceman if you want it.

get a short ram cheap one. it makes vtec sound real good. plus if you have to change it, it was cheap and you wont care.

If you're really short on cash, then get the K&N or Comptech filter and keep your stock intake box.

i recommend getting comptech icebox, i have been driving my car with comptech for almost 2 years now, and i haven't had a single problem and it don't have to worry about fitment and water going thru intake. i'll give 10 out of 10. oh you can go to autocarparts.com to get it for around $300.

just get any semi-cheap short ram, cold air isn't worth the money and is too much hassle when considering hydrolocking IMHO. all you need is a good sized pipe and a good free flowing filter (like the K&N)

get a drop in filter (comptech, k&n, monsterflo) and take apart your resonator so that it is just your J pipe or even take it off and get some new tubing to go from the fender to the air box.. i wouldnt waste that much money on a V2..... IMO NOT WORTH IT AT ALL especially if you change your mind about motor mod plans, then you are fugged...good luck tho man

Thanks for the advice y'all. The car is meant to be a daily driver (I'm a 1st yr. college student, and a BROKE one at that. I need the gs-r to last me through college), so I'm not sure how far I want to go. Most of you seem to say not to waste money with an expensive intake, esp. if I'm going to switch the manifold (which I plan to do eventually...how much is the Skunk2?), so I probably won't be going broke on some AEM product just yet unless someone can prove all these opinions wrong...

PS., I've got comptech headers (they were on the car when I bought it from acura of bellevue cuz the stock ones had a leak), without an intake or exhaust, are they really doing anything?

Let me put it this way,

I just paid $30 for the stock intake. Keep what you have on there, just change out the filter. That's the worst part of the stock setup.

I talked to a guy locally about the V2. He said that on a Civic DX they gained 18 whp with just the V2 intake. That's like 6 more on the DX than the original AEM. THat is alot of power for just an intake so if you don't have an intake, i would spend an extra 80 bucks for 6 more hp. The gains were more on the GSR but I just dont have that info. Your right though just throw a K&N Filter on your J pipe if your gonna go turbo, 250 is alot of dough for somethin you don't plan on keepin' !

skunk2 intake maniford is a carbon copy of the type r manifold for the gsr.
it is great for all motor.
the jg edelbrock intake manifold is good for FI.

that is what was posted in a magazine.
i doubt that from any civic dx (stock) a gain of 18 WHP from I/H/E..
and they're claiming 18WHP with just an intake? bullsh!t.

get the comptech icebox and the foam filter or k&n replacement filter.
great throttle response, no hydrolock *you live in washington*, looks stock
from engine bay *no hassle from cops*..

other than that..do a search...there have been many threads about the
comptech icebox...comptech icebox vs. aem cai...and even the bsq diy cai.

try to get an aftermarket cat and a custom exhaust or after market exhaust.
the bottlenecks in your stock exhaust are still restricting the exhaust flow after
the header.
