Default questions about recent theft.....

i have a civic hb dx so it has manual locks. How much will it cost to put in actuators with an alarm (also, what alarms are good, and is it hard to DIY?) I'm not that bad at installing electronics, but the question is wether or not its worth my time and effort. Also, what should i look to buy in an alarm or brands of door lock actuators (something reliable yet affordable).

One more question.....my car was broken into, and they stole my clarion faceplate. Its an older clarion, but is it replaceable? can i buy another face plate from clarion? has this happened to anyone else, and did you just have to buy a new stereo? sigh, im just pissed at ******* thieves.

Can't help you with the door actuator, but faceplates easily cost over $100

if u buy an alarm, u really don't need the actuators because the alarm will use the sensor on your door, once that is open then the alarm will sound.

Also you can get a viper alarm that will do the job.

i just wanted the actuators just for conveniance sake. i'm also tired of locking the passenger door after people who ride in my car forget. I just want to be able to lock it with the key remote and know that both sides are locked.

thx.

I'm sorry about your loss.
Okay here is the deal...look to buy a new deck. The typical cost of
a replacement faceplant is almost as much as the cost of a new deck. I
guess it depends on how much sentimental value you have for the old one.

As the the acuators the avg retail price is $20.00 per motor. If you are
really confortable with working on your car and running wires properly into
door jams...it can be a breeze. As for security systems..look for one that
has the relays for doorlocks on board, that way all you have to do is run the
wire for the motors.

when you say the alarm needs the relays for doorlocks on board, does that mean the same thing as "remote door lock relays"? if it is, is there any place i can research on the web about different car alarms and their weaknesses and strengths? i know people are leery about posting their individual setups so i was hoping someone could point me to some sites about car theft prevention. thanks.

I've bought door lock motors on Ebay. They are like $5 ea. which is cheap, I paid $15 ea. from a stereo shop. These must be installed of course and connected to an alarm or keyless enty unit. Both are about the same cost. It sounds like you need an alarm.
