how to clean my engine?
my friend and I recently took off the cover of the engine and I saw big chunk of bad, old oil in there. My guess is it is worst inside. I was wondering if you guys have any ideas on how to clean all that mess? any help will be appreciated.
A clean engine is a must, not to impress the chicks, but to run cooler and identify any engine leaks fast.
I've had good luck with "Steam Premium," should be available at any auto store. Follow directions on can.

outside- steam cleaning or cover you electronic and use a degreaser
inside- some people add some atf to their oil... has alot of detergent in it that cleans **** out without a engine breakdown.

Ah, inside the engine. Remove any sludge you can get to by hand and sop up with paper towels i guess, being careful not to intruduce any foreign objects to the valvetrain. Pour some new oil over everything to make sure it's lubed. Put your valvecover back on. There are a bunch of new oil cleaners/detergents on the market, designed to be added to the engine oil before oil change, you run the motor for a bit and then drain the oil. They're supposed to disovle and remove sludge and deposits. Ones I've found are BG Products Quick Clean and Gunk Engine Clean. Your motor may require a second cleaning.

Every few oil changes I take a quart out, and put a quart of ATF in and let it run for a few minutes then shut if down. You can also get special engine flush from any auto parts store, does the same thing. If it's really funky and you have some money to burn, do it two or three times to get it nice and clean. Beware if you have leaky rings to begin with, any flush or ATF in the oil thins the oil and your car will smoke BAD while the flushing agent is in there. Just a heads up so you don't freak out.
