Question about Stock Air Intake Boxes
Ive been looking at a lot of pics here lately and noticed a lot of people using stock air intake boxes instead of bolt on aftermarket stuff, after they have done an engine swap. Will someone give me the ins and outs of retaining stock. Personally I think it looks much cleaner stock.
Also, I see a lot of swapped cars that dont have the strut tower bars. Is the lack of them mean that they are gay or do they really not perform well therefore arent adding.
Please pardon my ignorance, Im just trying to learn some stuff.

sup. I believe its just personal preference. I think i'd rather have a stock box without resonator and a drop in aftermarket filter than a short ram intake. You won't suck in warm/hot air from the bay.
about the strut bars...I love strut bars. I personally have a 97 GSR stock front bar, and even with that I felf a small, but significant difference. It all depends on the constuction. one piece is something to look for. hope this helped some.

its that black plastic filler in your front passenger side part of the bumper..its connected to the intake box to prevent noise and stuff...
Ok, Im about to sound dumb here, but what is the resonator? You arent talking about the one in the exhaust system are you?
and people use the stock intakes because they perform just as well as short rams, look cleaner, and you wont suck up water.
tube style CAIs still perform best though (with the exception being the comptech icebox/short ram)
oh yeah, strut tower bars work, but don't do anything for drag racing (what most people are into)

I will have to look around in there and see what you are talking about, then I will remove it. Can you recommend a good filter? K & N or Jackson Racing or something?

A picture would be great. I think I took it out of my CRX when I had the bumper off. I will be taking the bumper off of the EH because I bought a new one for it so I will look into removing it then.
Thanks

Hey bro thanks for the picture. That is what I took out of my CRX and I will soon remove it from my EH. I really like the stock airboxes over the ram intakes. I guess I turned off by the "ricer" look that I have attributed to the ram intakes since Pep Boys started selling them alongside neon headlight flashers.
Thanks again

short rams r not "ricey"
Im a bit more into subtlety (looks wise) than stuff any idiot could recognize or associate with "power" even when it might not be a true power adder.

well, don't forget the sound too. Short Rams sound incredible. I remember when I got an AEM shortram when I had an accord back in the day...It sounded like I had a V-8!
CAI's have a good sound too. stock boxes with drop in's sound good too..actually..they all have their own unique sound!!

I don't know about you guys but i can't here my intake over my exhaust so the sound isn't was does it for me. I bought an AEM short ram for my hatch when i first got into hondas. I personaly don't think a stock airbox with a k&n drop in will out perform the short ram. I could be mistaken, since i don't have any dyno time to back it up. That's just my opinion.

I have a stock ITR intake system that ill be running in my car once i get the motor in. The pipe and air box are huge. I also like the stock look a lot better than an aftermarket intake so the ITR one is the best of both worlds. Fashion and function for me
short rams r not "ricey"
i beg to differ. they are certainly fassion over function, as a stock intake with !resonator and a K&N drop in filter will outperform them.

I personally feel my short ram outperform the stock air box, but I won't say so since I have no numbers
Anyone using their stock airbox with a B18C1 swap in an EG? I've been wanting to put the stock air box back in my 92 VX with 99 B18C1 but I can't get any tubes to work. I have my stock VX air box and tube (drinking straw) and the 99 GSR box and tube. If there's a proper tube/box combo let me know so I can get it in there.
almost everybodies first mod to their car is a cone intake.
making that extra throttle noise.
i have a short ram intake with a big bore tube, and eurosport filter, and a Heat shield.
even tho it has the heatshield, i prefer the look of the stock air box.
im probably going to go back to that.

I prefer the look of the stock box over the short ram anyday. i dont know the actual numbers, so i cant say which is better.
but i will be an ITR arm and box on with my new manifold
