new 1.35 mile road course in NJ?!?
Englishtown Raceway is opening a 1.35 mile road course at their facility this spring. I don't know anything about it other than what the site says. I can't wait to check it out. Only a half hour from my house. http://www.etownraceway.com/main/roadcourse/index.htm
Recheck that AJ..
No SCCA event will run at that site with the current amount of runoff room available.
RWP will take your money anyway they can with ill regard for safety..They've proved that by signing on with yet another "event promoter"
..new for this year RWP is please to announce the Wednesday night PERFORMANCE DRIFTING events".......I kid you not.

I think the guy helping promote the drifting is Eric who usually oversteers his 240SX at autocrosses.
If the course is set up safe, drifting could be fun to do once or twice. I see drifting like drag racing. Something to do once or twice, but can't see the fun in doing it continually.

Pandora's Box has been opened.
The road course is intended for cars and bikes... Run what ya brung mentality geared towards drag racers and ricers combined...
For a fee, damn near anyone will be able to drive the road course, which in my 120hp Civic, really wasn't all that bad (all else considered). If you're looking for something different than SoloII for a day (as long as the SCCA can sanction the program, like a SoloI perhaps?), it may just work...
...Then again, the car was in "winter mode", far off its true potential on the track.
But the story intensifies, RWP never got all the proper permits (as verified by someone who works there and by someone who is working for the firm to correct everything) for the course in the first place!!!
Now as a result, there is a "Town Meeting" on or around April 1 (no foolin') in which the Napp's are looking for people who road race/autocross and would want to use the road course to speak in their defense with regard to complaints over location, noise, etc. Mr. Napp even went so far as to contact one of the other NNJR Solo chiefs looking for "friends" despite the stuff RWP has put us through. That's *****.
Yet, as a mature 28 year old, I know that pride can sometimes be a bitter pill when it must be swallowed... So from a selfish standpoint ONLY (I'd never help a Napp directly), I may prepare a statement because I simply cannot bear to see anymore racing venues (good or bad) go away.

All day with no response to my earlier post? Did you all think this wasn't possible from the family that "operates" Raceway Park?
For shame.

Come on Tony. You teach High School. You know its always easier to seek forgiveness than ask permission........
IMHO, as another someone whose day job requires knowledge of how to exactly get the appropriate township approvals, along with the state permits too, that this little side order of spaghetti will require, I'd say there is an 80 to 90% chance the area will be back to grass before next winter......

Grass????...
Rallycross???...
I'm game...and then in the winter...we'll lower the entry fee and have
....SNOCROSS...wait that's already been taken..how about wintry weathered autocrossing in a field where there use to be an illegally installed road course but for a twist add in an 1/8th mile drag strip and then a hairpin to slide the car around and then........ok I'm done...
I don't really care what they do with this site...I'll find somewhere else to run, may Morris County College???I hear the site is small but the locals sure are nice...ROB??
Jeff
--afterthough...MCC probably not the best locale since the last time I was on the site, the Funnel Cake booth blew up..

Another update...
As some of you may recall, RWP was draining and filling the old lake. I knew immediately that they were going to use the land to accomodate the extra planes (in the form of hangars and "parking") from the now closed Marlboro Airport. There were some hopes that the new massive expanse of blacktop that will result from this could once again put the NNJR on top as far as site size and course quality goes... Not gonna happen.
The airport stuff will come, but we are stuck with the same small, deteriorating lot.
Now is really the time to get out there and look.
Here's an "ad" I created for the local newsletters.

WANTED
PAVED, 10+ ACRE LOT
In order to maintain the high standard our competitors have become accustomed to over the years, we are asking for all members to help us find, and possibly secure, a new autocross site. This can be as simple as contacting one of the individuals below, or inquiring about site usage in person. Either way we need everyone’s help...
Since 1997, we have been THE place to race in the Mid-Atlantic area for competitors looking for speed, professionalism, and quality. Our program is home to many National level competitors who rely on the aforementioned attributes to practice and hone skills. In addition, the money earned in our Solo2 program helps fund many other aspects of our region... If we lose, we all lose.

Yup, CCM was a great site 10+ years ago, before Randolph gentrified, became the land of mini-mansions, and people like me, and especially my neighbors, moved in.
As a start, given we're paying what, $1500 share space with those that live life 1/4 mile at a time
we do attempt 1 event or 2 at the Meadowlands. Park the trailer at B&B in Denville, I'll pick it up with the RV on the way, while the Mrs. drives the Toyoter, and we're there.
