Default Should I buy this DOHC ZC for $150? *pics*

It needs a new valve cover. The one shown is broken.

ZC tranny

The motor is missing the distributor. It just has the cap and wires.

Me showing the cut wires for the injectors on the intake manifold

Me opening up the throttle a bit. Note: the cable is missing

My buddy Martin recently honed the cylinders.

Martin posing by the motor. He's the guy that bought it for $50. Lucky ***...

ZC head

Tell me what I should do. I really want a ZC and my buddy Martin said he'd sell me his for $150. But, is it worth it? There is a lot of work to be done on this motor. I need some feedback fast because Martin said there's a guy who'll give him $200 by Sunday. But Martin said he'd rather see someone he knew with the motor and he knows I'm on a budget. He'll settle for $150 if I buy it. Please help me out and provide me with some info that I'll need so I could put this DOHC ZC in my '90 Crx Dx. Thanks in advance.

I'd buy it for 150, its a great project to work on on the side, plus if you don't feel like doing anything else, the tranny itself is worth 150, you can get your money back.

ill but that right now for $150 without thinking about it
screw that.. its worthed every penny..rebuilding will take u a few days with all parts. taking ur time and making sure everything is good... theres no hurry just do it right.... and while u at it, put new valve, rings. seals, bearings, and all the goodies... u can have a very fresh ZC for 650... that will run u another 150k without any mayor problems..... it will be strong and worthed since u can even use ur stock mounts....
cable doesnt care since u can use ur stock one with good rouiting.... dizzy , no big deal u can find one around for good price... valve cover... theres plenty D16A1 around.. get one off a yunkyard.....

u got a chance of a lifetime on ur hands
go right now. give him a check and start utting it on ur trunk.... its urs...

why are u still here reading this??? get the Fok out of here and go get urself a ZC for "free"

I'd buy it for $150. Since its all ready apart you can build it if you like. You have a lot of options with it right now if you decide to get it.

The thing is ... I have no idea what was done to this engine at all. I don't even know if it's blown or not. There is no leak down test or compression test to tell me whether it could be a good running motor for my car. Should I save up for a complete motor online instead? I want people's opinions. Thanks to those who already replied to this thread.

If you rebuild it with new piston rings and everything else you should have no worries. Its well worth the $150, don't let your buddie see this, he may up the price!

when a motor its blown u will see burnt valves, bad areas around the cylinder and sleeves, the combustion chamber
IMO that doesnt look like a blown motor.....
Co'mon
dont u trust ur buddy??
just buy it dude. u got nuttin to loose..... if u regret it, sell it to that guy that its currently asking for it....
but in case u dont get it, please make sure u change ur SN name here bc we going to flame us A$$ for not getting ur hands on great deal like that

BUY IT, if all else fails sell the tranny. I sold my extra ZC tranny for 230 bucks on ebay. Definately worth the 150>

buy it.as long as the crank is fine.your gonna put new bearings and rings in it anyway.there is no sense putting the old ones back in.its already honed thats a plus.so get yourself a gasket set.make sure the cam journals are fine in the head also.and like most of these guys said,do this as a side project.its a great starter motor

Now, here's the biggest problem. I've got to tell you about my situation.. I'm un-employed at the moment and I can't afford to get a side project before I actually get an engine for my own car. I want to swap in an engine before I get a second as a project. So I don't have that steady flow of green. If I get this engine, then I'll be forced to use it as my own and I'd have to save up to put some money into it. Some people have told me that if I wait a little longer until I save up enough for a complete dohc zc, then I'll have less headaches later as I do the swap. And I can know about compression and leak-down tests results. Also having a warranty would be nice. Thanks to those who put in their opinion. Keep 'em coming.

this stilll be ur cheapest alternative dude....
this idea will be the cheapest/. will take u about 2 weeks to rebuild...... if u dont buy it , and without a job it will take u even longer to get a complete already build engine swap..... even if u buy one online for 650, u still need to pay tax, shipping, and if it doesnt work right, then u need warranty hassle and it takes a long time...
u build this one, u know its rebuilded, that it will be safe and u dont need no leakdown test.,,, bc u already know **** inside is brand new......
this treath its getting old...
WE SAY BUY IT NOW!!!!
if u dont want to , and still undecided.... just dont.. u dont deserve to have that engine specially when its basically given to u as almost free........
i say time to lock this damn thread...

dude, if you're sweating the money then just buy it and sell the tranny. you'll even make some extra cash doing that. just swap it and use your old tranny. when you have some more moeny, go ahead and swap in a si transmission.

If your tight on money just pick it up and build it as you get money. As everyone has been saying, sell the tranny if you need to but what I'm wondering why did your friend dissasemble an engine and then decide to sell it?
