OK, my friend has a '97 CL 3.0. The problem is that when he is driving in D4 or D3(automatic) he will be cruising, not accelerating or decelerating, and his car will just shut off. Just plain shut off like it's out of gas. It happened 4 times last time he drove 200 miles to visit his parents. He called me looking for advice.

The only thing I could possibly sugggest is that his fuel pump is going bad. He said him and his dad did replace the fuel filter but that's all. Then it happened twice on his way back home from his parents. He says he'll be driving and his car will shut off, so he turns the key back, then forwards, and it restarts like nothing was wrong.

Anybody have the same experience or theories as to what could be wrong?

 

Ignition switch maybe? I think there is a recall on them because of stalling problems. Does it start right up after stalling?

Check the Main / PGM-FI relays.
