CRX w/B18C1 vehicle speed sensor question?
Hey there,
The problem I am having is that my car should be pulling harder at higher speeds. An LS integra keeps up at speeds greater than 60mph.. its not right.. I have a CRX with a 97 GSR engine and Y1 tranny. I am running the OBD2 ECU that is from the GSR which has an electronic vehicle speed sensor and the cable tranny doesnt have one, its mechanical. So the ECU doesnt know how fast I am going.. Is there anybody else with this problem? if so what should I do to fix it? Thanks for your help. aaron

you need to get a electronic speed sensor that goes into your tranny. I WAS going to run a electronic one to my cluster but i decided to go mechanical. So i got a extra one laying around if you wana buy it. The mechanical one is read by the ECU from the gauge cluster. the electronic is read straight by the ECU then the speed is spit out on the cluster. Dont quote me on that one, please correct me if i am wrong. But yeah. Im not sure if the electronic sensor has to be a certain OBD or not, but i have one. so let me know
This is what you'll do...plug in the speedo cable to your cluster...then run a wire from your cluster (B7 (yellow and red wire) to the VSS pin of your ecu. The CRX cluster has an electronic sender that reads the speedometer (run by cable) and will send the signal to your ecu...I hope this is clear enough for you, its too early for me to think right now without having a cup of coffee.
If you have the stock cluster in your CRX, you DO NOT need to rewire the VSS.
You need to use the cable from the transmission and plug it into the back of the cluster. The wiring in your car sends the signal to the ECU.
I've done countless swaps, what I am telling you is correct.

couldnt have said it better myself. but what I meant by wiring it, is just in case you dont have the (yellow and red) wire connected to your ecu.

Hey you guys have been a great help.. thanks alot.. I am going to work on my car tomorrow. I will tell you all about it.. thanks again
Hey I tried wiring up the speed sensor..this is how far I am: I found the yellow and red wire from my cluster.. now I need to know what pin location and color the speed senor wire is on my OBD2 P72 integra 96+ GSR ECU.. I can only find wiring diagrams for the OBD1 P72 ECU no matter where I search online and their harness's are completely different, its driving me crazy..
so my final question:
What is the OBD2 P72 ECU speed sensor pinout number and wire color?
thanks for your help..
