I was gonna probably buy an alarm and keyless entry. Are they hard to install if i have never done it before I hate to pay for installation on anything.

 

yup its pretty simple if you can put a deck in a car its basicly the same....just make sure you got a light tester oh and also theres these slots that you will see thats empty square type area use those

it depends on what type of alarm.. for example DEI vs. "Kmart brand"

 

I myself would not recommend it, b/c an alarm is really only as good as it is installed in my opinion.

Neatness and hiding main wires can be important in causing a theif to take longer to disable your alarm, possibly saving your car. Also, pros know tricks like running hidden back-up wires and stuff like that.

If it were me, I would find someone who is very experienced, and pay for the extra piece of mind.

 

I had a friend install my alarm with full options, and it works good.

If you are going to attempt this yourself, be carefull because one screw up can mess up your whole electrical system.

 

Another thing, if its not installed by a dealer of the alarm, any money they might give you because of a theft is null and void. I know its not much, but hell its a 'just in case' scenario.

 

The actual alarm itself isn't nearlly important as the install. Most alarms circuitry is nearlly the same and they usually buy them from the same place and slap thier name on it. You mostlly pay for the name.

Alarms are %95 install and %5 equipment. Get a cheaper alarm and the best install money can buy.

You can have the best alarm in the world with every bell and whistle known to man and have a shitty install...I guaruntee a theif could be in the car and have the alarm disabled in under 10 seconds.

Since you've never installed before...installing your alarm without knowign too much will basically render the alarm nothing but a noise maker. I know that it sucks and I'm certainlly not trying to be an ***...but I would definatelly get it installed from a reputable shop. The problem is most shops won't touch an alarm that didn't come from them.

So my advice to you is to go to a very reputable shop, get cheaper alarm from them and have them install it. Otherwise you may as well just not put the alarm in at all because it will be very ineffective.

I speak this from my Dad who installed at a very high end shop for about 6 yars...and I installed for about a year and a half. In any case... Good luck bro

wow, thanks guys that puts a lot in perspective, I will definitely get it installed, I am just oging to have to ask around to see who is the best. I can see why installation is so much more important than the unit itself. Thanks again.

 

Ask the shop if they solder and heat shrink the connections. Do not use a shop that doesnt. I have personally installed over 400 alarms, mostly DEI, but a lot of Code Alarm and Avital (Im probably dating myself here ) and the *only* way to make a connection properly is solder and heat shrink. I can say that I have NEVER had a connection fail that I soldered. All this is coming from a guy that has used everything from butt connectors to Scotch Locks to T-Taps to adapter harnesses.

Get is soldered in bro...
