Took my hatch to the track on sunday
Good run IMO. Got the best time on the first run. Misshifting the rest. Clutch started slipping like crazy on the last 2 runs, so I quit. I think I could've hit 14.7
I got a 89 std w/ d16y8 motor
converted to obd1 using p28
d16z6 intake mani
focuz headers
generic 3 year old intake
2 1/4 inch piping with universal muffler
w/ extremely bald 165/60/13 tires showing belt.
whatcha think?

that's an awesome time!!!
Tell me the procedure you did to achieved that 14 sec, i.e. tire pressure, rpm launch, shifting point etc??

tires weren't filled up for about a year. probably had about 20-25 psi. launched at 3k and peeled out till about 6k, then it grabbed. I shifted at 7500 in all gears.
I guess it was a good idea to swap out the zc motor for this y8 motor.
when I used to have the dohc zc motor in the car last year, I only ran 15.2...
Rae
BTW, anyone got a ZC distributor for sale? mine's fried...

If you can get your 60ft's down you will have no problem hitting a bit better of a time.
Unfortently, I had a pretty shitty day out their.. lol, too cold and I just spun the **** out of my slicks (that are very old anyways)
Oh well,
Jeff

I'm telling you guys... The Y8 motor is a WAY better alternative to the DOHC/SOHC ZC in EVERY aspect! Better gas mileage, more reliable, more power, and you can easily find parts!
Sweet times man...especially for the little amount of work you have done to it. Can i ask you why you put a z6 intake manifold on the y8? The y8 mani has MUCH better flow than the z6. It has a pretty noticable difference at 5k plus RPMs. Swap it out for the y8...get your 60ft down and get some drag radials and youll be in mid to low 14's.
to the D series...even though im about to put in a b series

Hey ill be posting some timeslips up pretty soon from pacific raceways. I just need to bolt on my ITR throttle body/Intake manifold on my b16 and iam good to go. I recently got new toyo fz4 tires so i think this will help alot ill be shootin for low to mid 14's 8).
Great times! That's one of the best times I've seen for a Y8... My best was a 15.2 in my 89 CRX Si. Awesome!
my d15b1 does a 15.2 but i duno the y8 should have more power than a d15
yeh its got around that much havent dynoed it yet hopefully before i goto texas i will.....just swapped to a better head ihe mpfi and a pm6....had an afc but took it off....if i can find a doner cam im gonna get a regrind from deltacams done then 14s will be possible but finding a y7 cam locally is a pain
thx guys for the compliments.
that day I was only expecting to run maybe low 15's. when I saw the first two digits "14" on the time board as i crossed the finish line, I was goin crazy.
I bet that mustang GT driver on the right side was pissed. there was a lot of detroit muscles that day.
there were also 3 other ef's there with B16's. there was a 88 crx dx with B16 that ran 15.1, 90 dx hatch B16 that ran 14.9, and a 90 crx si B16 that ran 14.8. They were all surprised with my run. it was a good day--can't wait to turbo this motor.
Jeff--I really thought you woulda hit 12's that day??

sceraxn,
I put the z6 manifold on there cuz i was having some sort of vacuum problems with the y8 manifold, and couldn't figure it out. put on the z6 manifold, and the car ran smooth. Oh well, I sold that y8 mani on ebay for 200 bucks.
