I don't understand why our b16's get bad mileage but del sol vtec's are fine
I have just completed my swap, and i've been looking at other people's posts and I just don't get why most people get in the 22 -27 mpg range? with b16's it just doesn't make sense. I've got a friend who has owned a civic si 00 and a del sol vtec, and he's always been in the 29-33 range. What's the deal guys?
Depends on how people do their swaps. If they 1/2 *** the O2 sensor wiring they're gonne get poor gas milage. Also if you've got a JDM S1/J1 tranny it's geared a bit steeper than the USDM Del Slow and 99-00 Si trannies. Worse gas milage can be attributed at having to cruise at 5000 rpm on the highway
I think that part of this is due to a lot of the B16 swaps in our EFs are OBD-0. OBD-1 seems to allow(from what Ive read, and what Ive heard from some other people who have swapped B16s into their rexs/civics) for a little more HP and better fuel mileage. Also, I think the mileage depends on how often you keep you foot out of the throttle, and just basic routine maintainence such as plugs, wires, cap and rotor, and the kind of fuel you run(regular, mid, or premium). I always ran premium in my B16, and Id say I was getting close to 30-32 mpg with the OBD-0 setup.
i've gotten atleast 30 mpg or more driving my 1990 CRX Si with a 91 B16a with J1 tranny every day to work and home and around town..
then again, i stay off VTEC a lot.. that makes the needle go down much quicker..

somebody said the that the j1 and the s1 trannies are geared higher than the del slow's and civic si's but actually aren't they exactly the same exept for first gear, and first gear being lower than in the del slow's and civic si's?
