Default CRX Hatch wont stay open

When I pull my hatch release lever nothing happens. The only way for me to open it is to put the key in and then hold the heavy *** thing. I suppose the hydrolic hatch lifter-uppers are worn out. There are some used 2nd gen integra hydrolic lifts available to me. Are these too long? If I've got to buy replacements, how expensive are they? Is this a common problem among CRXs?

i have the same problem. it's never been that big of an issue so that i'd need to fix it, but if it turns out to be pretty cheap...then great. any info on this would be cool....

Well you must be an ironman because I swear to god that hatch door weighs 450 lbs.

yes it's a common problem amongst rexes as well as any car that uses small hydraulic arms to hold up a hatch door or hood (it's a long list including just about every hatchback out there. my guitarist has a plymouth voyager with the same issues)...those things NEVER hold up to a couple hundred thousand miles like the rest of the car will.

your best bet is to find a junked crx and steal the arms from that. should be a very, very easy swap; you pull the little plastic covers off to expose the bolts.

oh, and if i remember correctly the crx hatch is about 45 pounds. so, you know, 10% of your estimate

i didn't know they were that cheap/available at the parts store...**** the junkyard, unless you really wanna save $10 for arms with only a few miles less on them than the ones you have.

i think it has something to do with the latch and the cable that opens the hatch. Mines has the same problem and i still had the problem after i fixed the lifts. After I took the panels off and played around with the latch and stuff for awhile (with hammers and such) i got it to pop open again. Now it opens sometimes and sometimes it doesnt. it doesnt make a popping noise anymore but it opens. Try taking of the panels in the back and see if the latch for the hatch looks out of place.
