If i cut the stock shifter, will it be the same as a short throw shifter?
It's not the same. It's the shift throw, not the size of the shifter that is shortened. Just get a good quality short throw shifter.
oh, and by the way, there is no reason to get a high quality short shifter, just get an ebay one, they cost like 15 bucks whereas a b&m cost like 100, i've had mine for over a year, hard shifts and all, i've never had any problems with it.
The reason a short shifter makes the throw shorter is because the place where the pivot point is, to where the shifter mounts up to the shiftlinkage is longer, which allows you to move the shifter inside the cockpit a shorter angle to get the same effect.

oh yeah, if you want to be cheap, and you know how to weld, you could always just take your stock shifter off, and cut it between the pivot point and the bolt up point, and then lengthen that by like 3/4-1 inch.
but i'd just buy one off ebay, that way if you ever want to put your stock shifter in, you will be able to, some people just don't like the way a short shifter feels, so you may want to put your stock one back in.

I use a B&M short thow shifter, I paid $80 for it and it was well worth it. It is balanced nicely weighted for fast shifts. I've installed plenty of shifters. You get what you pay for. Cheap shifters are exactly that....cheap, and if you ask me their throw is not much better than stock.

The reason I said to get a high quality one is bc. i've read a lot of posts about people snapping their ebay shifters. You may have gotten a good one, but most aren't.
