I have purchased an s2k and want to know if the previous owner may have had 2 ECUs. Where as the mileage accumulated on one and the other, the original, he put back in with low miles.
Is there anyway to check to see if this was done? Could this be done? It is a 2001 w/ 8k miles, this is what sparked my curiousity, plus it has rims on it and looks like it may have had a stereo system at one point.

 

Low milage and modified isn't an impossible combination. My car was stripped twice by 6,000miles and undergoes the same treatment next month...

The gauge cluster is the only thing that tracks mileage on the S2000. You can freely swap ECU's, but the cluster would be the thing to swap. Could you tell the difference? Probably not. You may want to research if the VIN number is tagged onto the Speedo and go from there.

 

So, I guess there is a memory chip in the gauge cluster?

 

Look i don't know if thats possible about the miles with the ecu but i do think its possible that the car only has 8000 miles on it. I just bought a 2001 s2000 and it only has 10000 on it so i don't see why yours couldn't have 8000, my car is in mint condition though.
