How Difficult to rebuild 1990 Accord Alternator
I just picked up a 1990 Accord with 150k miles. I am now the proud owner of two 1990 accords. The first one has 210k miles. (Two kids in college)
At 175K miles the alternator died on my first accord. The brushes wore down to nothing. I replaced them for $25 from Honda and I've had no problems since. Now I am going to replace the brushes on the second accord as the car will be at school with my daughter. Should I replace any other parts in the alternator while I have it out? Is there a rebuild kit available? thanks

The only wear items on alternators are brushes and bearings. Bearing failure starts with dried-out lubricant, either from overheating or age. Other parts fail randomly regardless of age, so there is no good prophylactic replacement procedure. Check the bearings for sound and play with the alternator removed.
