Help me spend $$$ on my b16a.....
im gonna be getting some cash from a refund and i plan on doing some big work to my b16, i already have every bolt-on possible for it. ive narrowed it down to either throwing an ls/vtec together or i was gonna get either jun III's or maybe some toba B's with springs & retainers. i just dont know what would be better... revving to the moon
or having some torque behind those rev's
?!?! anybody have any ideas? how do those cams perform in a b16a? i would to run like a 13.x in the 1/4. btw: its in my 91 dx hatchback. thanks!

Get rid of the 1.6 , dont bother with the cams and such now.... your going to reach the limit of the 1.6 very soon , then get very bored with it. i had all the boltons plus cams in my b16 and was bored with it within a month. The best investment I ever made was the 2000.00 I spent on my brand new type r shortblock(up to that point).. 1 more thing dont stop at 1.8 , if your going ls vtec go with a b20 and make it a 2.0.
Where can you get a Type R block for 2k? All I have been able to find are complete swaps for upwards of 4k. Please PM me with a site where I can get one.

He asked about allmotor stuff not boost. If he would have stated boost then i would have not responded at all. And even still , just start with the 1.8 now and go boost later.

I gotta say go with the b16... i'm all about pimpin out the underdog
this is what i would do: (in order of favor)
1)buy a turbo kit + hondata
2)JunIII cams and valtrain upgrade
3)use money on rebuild and bore block out to 84.5 making your B16 into a B18ish
4)buy a toda or jun stroker kit.

the thought has crossed my mind about doing some 85mm endyne pistons with eagle rods + darton sleeves, but i dont know? also there is the thought of doing the infamous b16a stroker(1.6L --> 1.9L).
__rozzo car is so sick! we were out driving around the other night... the motor only has like 300 miles on it and we were revvin to 9200 rpm!!! he's freakin nuts. it will break the tires loose in first or second by just gettin on the throttle!

Actually depending on what the motor is built for, thats plenty. I have seen guys put new pistons and rings at the track and be pulling 9500 3 runs later, that motor is now in a street car with less than 3-4% leak down 15000 miles later. Better than my motor that was fully blueprinted and broken in properly for 1200 miles.
Now I'm not gonna say that I'll ever do that with only 300 miles on my motors, just pointing out the fact that after 300 miles you actually can have a pretty good break in if done properly.

if all you want is 13s,
send your head to Alaniz Cylinder head technologies
Get some skunk2 stage 2 cams,
Alot of dyno tuning
and a pair of slicks and you will run 13s easily
couple years ago my friend, me, and another guy drove an hour to the race track, straight to tech lane, and he ran 13.8s all day and even got in a 13.7 on an untuned high 160whp b16a in a EG on some toyo tires... and then we drove home

what kind of head work? port/polish, valve job, welded combustion chambers? i guess if your gonna have the head of you might as well get the other work done. has anyone else used the skunk2's? i really havent heard that much on them.
Send your head to Joe Alaniz with what you expect from your motor/set up.
Not only is Joe great a Master head Tech, but he is also an engine builder! He will know what is right for you.

i don't know how well i like it yet.
. its not done.. hopefully next week though
how about a stock b20/vtec??? stock meaning stock block. i was just reading the newest sport compact car and in there is an article on the guys at superior racing. one of them has a 90 civic hacth dx with a b20/vtec: stock block with b16a head, type r cams and upgraded valvtrain. says it only weighs in at 1900 lbs. 12.63@100mph in the 1/4!!! thats pretty impresive.
the question is how would a stock b20/vtec run and how long would it last say revving to 7800-8000rpm?
