Issues with Kosei K1s? About to purchase
I sold the race engine (committed but not delivered) so I'm planning to order 6 15x7 Kosei K1s next week for the F Prod CRX track only. From my research, it appears to be the lightest wheel with some durability at the price (about $80 each). Other than periodic inspection for damage that should be done on any wheel, anyone got any issues that should disuade me? Thanks.
where/why are they only $80/peice? i paid $139/ea for mine.
i've had no problems at all using them on the street, the track and for autocross. but i'm only using street tires. i just wish they were easier to clean. white wheels+brake dust=really sucky time.

I bought 6 of mine for $90 and 2 of them for $75.
Gotta have the hook-ups boyz.
To answer your question Lee, no issues whatsoever. Theres a BUNCH of people who use them and I haven't heard any negatives yet. I know the OPM guys use them on their Prelude and their fleet of spec miatas.

I would love to get in on this deal.
These wheels were great. Very durable and relatively light. Had these on the terd Civic with no problems.

I picked up a set for the same reasons you mentioned. I do know someone that bent one. He was running them on a VW and hit a big pothole or something. Any other wheel may have done the same thing. To date thats really the only problem I have heard.
Unless you want to step up to a forged wheel like the SSR comp the K1 is the way to go.
However, I have heard a rumor that Kosei may start to phase out the wheel and switch to a new model. It was suggested to me that if I can find an extra or two I may want to pick up some spares if I get the opportunity. But thats a rumor.
if you go to there .jp site there is already a new wheel. on a e30 bmw ive heard of a few that have broken spokes but i love mine and nothing bad at all to say about them
Echo-ing the sentiments of others...
I have put probably 50k miles on three sets of K1's on two different cars and never had a problem with any of 'em. Although to be fair all of those miles were on sticky street tires, and most of those miles were street with the occasional autoX or wet/slow road course laps thrown in, so they've never seen extreme (i.e. roadracing in the dry on Hoosiers) duty...
My vote? Great value for sure, esp at the prices you mention. Buy 'em!

Ditto. I have one that was directly impacted by an accord when it t-boned my EG Si (poor thing, R.I.P.) I cleaned it up, inspected for cracks, and then took it to two different tire dealerships to check the balance of the wheel. To my surprise, everything was fine! I'm still using it 12 months later! Just cleaned and inspected it this past weekend with nary a hairline fracture. Now that's what I call durable! Especially for a lightweight!
Not that you need more proof that these wheels rock, but here you go:
Used for 2 years on crappy california roads
1 Year of autocrossing
800 mile road trip on race springs
Not a single problem.
All I want to know is, when did they stop selling 15x7.5?

Thanks for all the input, it seems like this is the way to go.
There is a lot of networking, partnerships, and friendly deals within the automotive aftermarket industry and that is how I got the pricing (basically wholesale or better). Working those angles can often get some nice parts for the race and street car. I bought some cheap, new CRX brake rotors last week for $6 each but that door is now closed.
It makes sense that wholesale prices are lower if the K1 is beginning a phase out cycle for replacement. That makes me wonder if I need to get 8 instead of 6 while I still can but that seems like excess.
Deals like this are always for personal cars and tend to be "jump it now while I'm offering" situation so there is no way to pass it on to others. Too bad I am not into big diameter, chrome "bling" wheels as I have several manufacturer's that owe me some big favors and I could get some free wheels from. Only problem is "not my car, not my taste". Too bad the sales manager of BBS Wheels left the company before I could call in that favor
... I was salivating for a set of BBS but waited too long (didn't want to appear too eager).
